UPC Sweden
UPC Sweden was a Swedish cable television distributor, mainly active in the Stockholm region. It was the second largest cable network in Sweden before it was integrated into Com Hem in 2006. It was formed in 1985 by the three estate companies Familjebostäder, Svenska Bostäder and Stockholmshem as StjärnTV. It was later sold to Singapore Telecom International, who passed it on to Scandinavian Equity Partners in 1998. They, now known as EQT Scandinavia, sold it to United Pan-Europe Communications in 1999 who changed the company name to UPC in 2000. Digital television was launched in 2001, but it kept an analogue basic package for its entire existence. In April 2006, Liberty Global Europe (formerly UPC) decided to sell many of their assets, including UPC Sweden and UPC Norway. UPC Holding is a European telecommunications company owned by Liberty Global which provides cable television, broadband internet and fixed telephony in Europe. UPC was founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands by United International Holdings and Philips, originally as ''United Philips Cable'', which included the cable television assets in Europe of both companies. Com Hem was a Swedish brand owned by Tele2 AB which supplied Triple Play services that included cable television, broadband internet and fixed-line telephone. Founded in 1983 as Televerket Kabel-TV as part of the former state-owned Televerket, the company was successively named Svenska Kabel-TV AB and Telia InfoMedia TeleVision AB, before becoming 'Com Hem' (a play on the Swedish phrase ''Kom hem'', "come home") in 1999. In 2003, Telia had to sell Com Hem to EQT Partners to satisfy EU competition requirements as a result of its merger with Sonera of Finland that same year.
