UMT–Pădurea Verde
UMT–Pădurea Verde is a district of Timișoara located near the Green Forest and the former Timișoara Mechanical Plants (, abbreviated UMT). Founded in 1960 by the merger of two factories in the city, the Timișoara Mechanical Plants were bought in 2018 by Continental AG, a German multinational automotive manufacturer which has been operating since the early 2000s near the former industrial platform. Green Forest, Timișoara
The Green Forest (in Romanian ''Pădurea Verde'', in Hungarian ''Vadászerdő'', in German ''Jagdwald'', the last two translated as "hunting forest") is an urban forest located in northeastern Timișoara, covering an area of 724 ha (or 737 ha according to other sources). It is seen as Timișoara's green lung and is also an important recreation and leisure area. History The area has been inhabited since ancient times, proof of this being a Sarmatian tomb of a woman discovered after archeological surveys in the forest in 1969. Over time, the forest was both a place of shelter and a source of food for the locals. During the peasant uprising of 1514, György Dózsa and his bands of peasants advanced towards the city hidden through the Green Forest. Banat Village Museum
The Banat Village Museum () is an open-air ethnographic museum in northeastern Timișoara, at the edge of the Green Forest. Spread over an area of 17 ha, the museum is designed as a traditional Banat village and includes peasant households belonging to various ethnic groups in Banat (Romanians, Slovaks, Swabians, Ukrainians, Hungarians, etc.), buildings with social function of the traditional village (town hall, school, church, etc.), folk art installations and workshops. History The idea of establishing an open-air ethnographic museum goes back to Ioachim Miloia, former director of the Museum of Banat between 1928 and 1940. Timișoara Zoological Garden
Timișoara Zoological Garden (Romanian: ''Grădina Zoologică Timișoara'') was a zoo in Timișoara, Romania, located in the northeastern part of the city, near the Green Forest. It was originally opened in 1986 with 30 species of animals, mostly local to Romania. History The zoo was opened to the public in 1986, and was home to about 30 species, most of which were native to Romania. It was originally administered by the Horticultura Autonomous Authority, which was eventually turned into a commercial enterprise. In its early years the zoo was poorly administered, and in order to remedy this, the city acquired the land in 2002 and started a feasibility study on rehabilitating the zoo. The zoo was eventually closed to the public in the autumn of 2004. Renovation started with the infrastructure (electrical, sewage, and pumping systems) in 2004 and 2005 and continued in 2006 with parking, walkways, bridges and construction of habitats.
