Unione Sportiva Alessandria Calcio 1912, commonly referred to as Alessandria, is an Italian football club based in Alessandria, Piedmont. It currently plays in Eccellenza, the fifth tier of Italian football. History Brief history Founded in 1912, Alessandria spent 13 seasons in Serie A between 1929 and 1960 and 21 in Serie B (last in 2022); it also reached one Coppa Italia final in 1936. Carlo Carcano
Carlo Carcano (; 26 February 1891 – 23 June 1965) was an Italian footballer and manager who played as a midfielder. Club career Carcano was born in Varese. As a player, he was a one club man, playing for Alessandria. International career At international level, Carcano also represented Italy on 5 occasions between 1915 and 1921, scoring once. Managerial career After he retired from playing, Carcano moved into management to much acclaim. He led Juventus to four consecutive league titles; the first of only two managers in Italy football history (alongside Massimiliano Allegri) to win four in a row. He later also managed the Italy national football team. He was suddenly removed from the Juventus club in December 1934 in order to stifle a homosexual scandal in which he was involved by elements of society hostile to him. Adolfo Baloncieri (; 27 July 1897 – 23 July 1986) was an Italian football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. Critically regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Gianni Brera considered him one of the greatest Italian playmakers ever, alongside the likes of Giuseppe Meazza and Valentino Mazzola. The 1928 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the IX Olympiad (), was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The city of Amsterdam had previously bid for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games. Pietro Rava (; 21 January 1916 – 5 November 2006) was an Italian football defender and coach, who played as a full-back. He won the 1936 Summer Olympics and the 1938 FIFA World Cup with the Italy national team. Club career Rava, born in Cassine, Province of Alessandria, played for the clubs U.S. Alessandria (1928–35, 1946–47), Juventus F.C. (1935–46 and 1947–50) and Novara Calcio (1950–51).
