Tire
A tire (American English) or tyre (British English) is a ring-shaped component that surrounds a Rim (wheel), wheel's rim to transfer a vehicle's load from the axle through the wheel to the ground and to provide Traction (engineering), traction on the surface over which the wheel travels. Most tires, such as those for automobiles and bicycles, are pneumatically inflated structures, which also provide a flexible cushion that absorbs shock as the tire rolls over rough features on the surface. Tires provide a footprint, called a contact patch, that is designed to match the weight of the vehicle with the bearing strength of the surface that it rolls over by providing a bearing pressure that will not deform the surface excessively. Tyre (; ar, صور, translit=Ṣūr; phn, 𐤑𐤓, translit=Ṣūr, Greek language, Greek ''Tyros'', Τύρος) is a city in Lebanon, one of the List of oldest continuously inhabited cities, oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, though in medieval times for some centuries by just a tiny population. It was one of the earliest Phoenician metropolises and the legendary birthplace of Europa (mythology), Europa, her brothers Cadmus and Phoenix (son of Agenor), Phoenix, as well as Carthage's founder Dido (Elissa). The city has many ancient sites, including the Tyre Hippodrome, and was added as a whole to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1984. The Tyre District is a district in the South Governorate of Lebanon. History Ancient history Founded at the start of the third millennium BC, Tyre originally consisted of a mainland settlement and a modest island city that lay a short distance off shore. It became an increasingly important port city in the region in the first millennium BC Phoenicia. In the 10th century BC, Hiram I, king of Tyre, joined two islets by landfill. Later, he extended the city further by reclaiming a considerable area from the sea. Phoenician expansion began around 815 BC when traders from Tyre founded Carthage in North Africa. The see of Tyre was one of the most ancient dioceses in Christianity. The existence of a Christian community there already in the time of Saint Paul is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles. The Tyre Hippodrome is a UNESCO World Heritage site of the city of Tyre in south Lebanon dating back to the Second century CE The Expositio, a description of the world written in the second half of the fourth century by an unknown writer about circuses in the Roman empire, names the ''Tyre Hippodrome'' as one of the five best racecourses in the Levant. Austin Township is a civil township of Sanilac County of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the township had a total population 619. The township was organized in 1851. Communities * Austin Center is an unincorporated community near the center of the township at Cumber and M-19/Ubly Roads (Elevation: 791 ft./241 m.). Colin Tyre, Lord Tyre
Colin Jack Tyre, Lord Tyre, (born 17 April 1956) is a Scottish lawyer, former President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe, and a Senator of the College of Justice, a judge of the Supreme Courts of Scotland. Early life Tyre studied at the School of Law of the University of Edinburgh and took a postgraduate diploma at the University of Aix-Marseille before returning to Edinburgh as a lecturer from 1980–1983. He was admitted as an advocate in 1987 and served as Standing Junior Counsel (legal advisor) to the Procurement Executive of the Ministry of Defence from 1991 to 1995 and to the Environment Department of the Scottish Office from 1995 to 1998. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1998. Tyre Glasper (born April 14, 1987) is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and attended Martin Luther King High School in Detroit, Michigan. Early years Glasper played high school football for the Martin Luther King High School Crusaders. He was named first-team all-city, first-team all-metro and special mention all-state. College career Glasper played for the North Carolina A&T Aggies from 2006 to 2009. Tyre Jerel Phillips (born January 29, 1997) is an American football offensive guard for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Mississippi State and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
