Typotheque
Typotheque is a type foundry and design studio from The Hague, Netherlands that develops and markets original typefaces. In October 2009, Typotheque became the first type foundry to introduce the concept of webfonts. The typefaces sold under the Typotheque foundry label are mostly designed by Peter Biľak, including the populaFedra Sans and Fedra Serif font families. Peter Biľak
Peter Biľak (; born 1973 in Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak graphic and typeface designer, based in The Hague, The Netherlands. He works in the field of editorial, graphic, and type design; teaches typeface design at the postgraduate course Type&Media at the KABK, Royal Academy of Art (The Hague). He started Typotheque in 1999, ''Dot Dot Dot'' in 2000 (with Stuart Bailey), Indian Type Foundry in 2009, ''Works That Work'' magazine in 2012, and Fontstand in 2015. He is a member of AGI, (Alliance Graphique Internationale.) and lectures on his work internationally. Zilla Slab
Zilla Slab is a free to use, open source slab serif font commissioned by the Mozilla Foundation as a part of their rebranding process from mid-2016 to 2017. It was created in 2017 by Peter Biľak and Nikola Djurek, typeface designers for the Typotheque foundry. It is inspired by the Tesla Slab font, also originally designed by Typotheque. Its variant, Zilla Slab Highlight, features a unique ligature in its bold weight, where the character sequence “ill” will turn into “://”, purposely intended for using the stylized Mozilla wordmark as “moz://a”. Usage Zilla Slab is used as the branding font for Mozilla Foundation, featured in its logo as well as their other products and projects, such as MDN Web Docs and Common Voice, alongside Inter and Metropolis. Type Foundry
A type foundry is a company that designs or distributes typefaces. Before digital typography, type foundries manufactured and sold metal and wood typefaces for hand typesetting, and matrices for line-casting machines like the Linotype and Monotype, for letterpress printers. Today's digital type foundries accumulate and distribute typefaces (typically as digitized fonts) created by type designers, who may either be freelancers operating their own independent foundry, or employed by a foundry. ''Abitare'', published monthly in Milan, Italy, is one of the world's best known design magazines. It was first published in 1961. History and profile ''Abitare'' was launched in Milan in 1961 by Piera Peroni. The magazine was published monthly. It was devoted to architecture, interior design, furniture, product design and graphic arts and was published both in Italian and English. In 1976 the magazine was sold to Segesta Publishing group. FontShop International was an international manufacturer of digital typefaces (fonts), based in Berlin. It was one of the largest digital Type foundry, type foundries. The Type Directors Club (TDC) is an international organization devoted to typography and type design, founded in 1946 in New York City. TDC believes that type drives culture, and that culture drives type—and is dedicated to cataloging, showcasing, and exhibiting typography worldwide. ''Emigre'' () was a (mostly) quarterly magazine published from 1984 until 2005 in Berkeley, California, dedicated to visual communication, graphic design, typography, and design criticism. Produced by Rudy VanderLans (editor and art director) and Zuzana Licko (type designer and typesetter), ''Emigre'' was known for creating some of the very first digital layouts and typeface designs. Exposure to Licko's typefaces through the magazine lead to the creation of Emigre Fonts in 1985.
