Tukoji Rao Holkar II
Maharajadhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Sawai Shri Sir Tukoji Rao II Holkar XI Bahadur (3 May 1835 – 17 June 1886) was the Maharaja of Indore (Holkar State) belonging to the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas. His birth name was Shrimant Yukaji Jaswant Holkar. He was the son of Raja Shrimant Santoji Rao Holkar, from the collateral branch of the Holkar dynasty. Biography On the death of Khande Rao Holkar II in 1844 former Maharaja Marthand Rao Holkar claimed the throne for himself, but his request, backed by many nobles, was not given by the British. Krishna Bai Holkar Sahiba, one of the widows of Yashwant Rao Holkar, suggested the name of the younger son of Bhao Santoji Holkar (uncle of Marthand Rao). Sawai is a title of honor used in the Indian subcontinent, the word having its root in Sanskrit language. Sawai literally means a quarter over one (1+1/4) in strength and / or intelligence. Khande Rao Holkar II
H.H.Maharajadhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Sawai Shri Khande Rao II Holkar X Bahadur (1828 – 17 March 1844), belonging to the Holkar dynasty of the Marathas was Maharaja of Indore ( Hokar State) (r. 1843 – 1844). He was born at Jotsikhera in 1828, as the eldest son of Shrimant Sardar Bapuji Rao Holkar of Jotsikhera. He was adopted by his cousin, Maharaja Hari Rao Holkar IX, 2 July 1841 (recognised by the Government of India, 30 August 1841),and succeeded on the death of his adopted father, 24 October 1843. After the death of Hari Rao Holkar, his adopted successor Khande Rao was formally installed on 13 November 1843, and his succession was recognized by the British Government. Mahārāja (; also spelled Maharajah, Maharaj) is a Sanskrit title for a "great ruler", "great king" or " high king". A few ruled states informally called empires, including ruler raja Sri Gupta, founder of the ancient Indian Gupta Empire, and Chandragupta Maurya. The Most Exalted Order of the Star of India is an order of chivalry founded by Queen Victoria in 1861. The Holkar (Pronunciation: �o(ː)ɭkəɾ dynasty was a Maratha clan of Dhangar origin in India. The Holkars were generals under Peshwa Baji Rao I, and later became Maharajas of Indore in Central India as an independent member of the Maratha Empire until 1818. Later, their kingdom became a princely state under the protectorate of British India. The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a major uprising in India in 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company, which functioned as a sovereign power on behalf of the British Crown. The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the Company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, northeast of Delhi. It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plain and central India, though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east. Yashwant Rao Holkar
Yashwant Rao Holkar (c. 1776-1811) also known as Jaswantrao Holkar belonging to the Holkar dynasty of the Maratha Empire was the Maharaja of the Maratha Empire. He was a gifted military leader and educated in accountancy as well as literate in Persian and Marathi and Urdu.
