Travelers Protective Association Of America
The Travelers Protective Association of America is a fraternal benefit and service club in the United States. The organization was originally created by and for traveling salesmen though today it is open to other occupational groups. History In January 1882 a meeting was held by a small group of traveling salesmen at a hotel in Chicago to discuss forming a cooperative society to address the issues facing their profession. The Travelers Protective Association of the United States was formally established on June 24, 1882, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Its original goals were to obtain special concessions from hotels, railroads and transportation agencies and advocated on behalf of their members if they had a grievance. By 1890, however, the group was on the verge of financial collapse and felt that it could only remain active if it added an accident insurance benefit. Door-to-door is a canvassing technique that is generally used for sales, marketing, advertising, evangelism or campaigning, in which the person or persons walk from the door of one house to the door of another, trying to sell or advertise a product or service to the general public or gather information. First Christian Church (Clinton, Kentucky)
The First Christian Church in Clinton, Kentucky, at 201 N. Washington St., was established at that site in 1876. Its original building was destroyed in a fire in 1896, and the current building was built in 1899. Includes historic photos and 19 photos from 2015. Correspondence in support of the nomination, appended, includes mention of 1896 fire. The current building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. It is Romanesque Revival in style; its architect is unknown. It has several stained glass windows on its principal facades facing east and south; the central bay on each of those facades features a two-story tripartite stained glass window. The church was expanded to the northeast to add a fellowship hall including a full kitchen in 1966. A * American Benefit Society of New York – Headquartered in White Plains, New York. Had 939 members at the end of 1922. * American Benefit Society – Incorporated in late 1893 in Massachusetts. Open to socially acceptable men and women ages 18–45 who believed in a supreme being, and able to earn a livelihood. The organization would not enter any but the "more healthful regions of the northern States" and was particularly concentrated in New England. There were 5,000 member in the late 1890s.
