Tore Schei
Tore Schei (born 19 February 1946) is a Norwegian judge and lawyer. He was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Norway from 1 August 2002 until he retired in 2016, and was succeeded by Toril Marie Øie. He was born in Oslo as a son of Andreas Schei. He is a nephew of Nikolai Schei. He graduated in law in 1971, and was granted the right to work with Supreme Court cases in 1974. Between 1972 and 1981 he worked for the Office of the Attorney General of Norway. He was also a deputy judge in Ytre Follo District Court during this period, from 1975 to 1976, and was promoted to presiding judge in the Eidsivating Court of Appeal. On 18 October 1985 he was appointed as Justice of the Supreme Court and took office in March the following year. Since 2002, he has been Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Norway. Andreas Schei
Andreas Olai Schei (7 October 1902 – 25 December 1989) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. He was born in Førde as the son of Per Schei (1872–1960) and Johanne Schei (1874–1963). He was a younger brother of Nikolai Schei. In 1936 he married Karin Randi Bache-Wiig (1910–1996). He is the father of Chief Justice Tore Schei. After spending time in France he enrolled in law studies and took the cand.jur. degree in 1926. He was a deputy judge from 1926 to 1929 and a secretary in the Ministry of Justice and the Police from 1929 to 1939. In 1939 he was hired in the Ministry of Provisioning, and from 1941 to 1942 he was an acting deputy under-secretary of state in the Ministry of Trade. Then, after three years in the company Norsk Brændselolje, he was appointed as deputy under-secretary of state in the Ministry of Justice in 1945. In 1946 he was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice. MS ''Scandinavian Star'', originally named MS ''Massalia'', was a car and passenger ferry built in France in 1971. The ship was set on fire on April 7, 1990, killing 159 people. The Eidsivating Court of Appeal ( no, Eidsivating lagmannsrett) is one of six courts of appeal in the Kingdom of Norway. The Court is located in the city of Hamar.
