Spirit Moves
''Spirit Moves'' is the 29th album by trumpeter Dave Douglas. It was released on the Greenleaf Music label in 2009 and features Douglas band Brass Ecstasy. Reception The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4 stars stating "In sum, ''Spirit Moves'' is a welcome departure for Douglas, who has been working with his longtime electric band and more recently with his great Keystone group. It's beautiful because, though it moves radically from the concerns of his other groups, it does indeed restate his deep love for the tradition while expressing his forward-thinking notions of group interplay as well as his own healthy, warm sense of humor".Jurek, TAllmusic Reviewaccessed September 26, 2011 In JazzTimes, Josef Woodard wrote "On ''Spirit Moves'', Douglas puts an intriguing songbook of originals and inventively retreated cover songs before his able and aesthetically willing brass cohorts".Woodard, J.JazzTimes Review August/September 2009 PopMatters Will Layman observed "It ...

Smiles Ahead
The simplified molecular-input line-entry system (SMILES) is a specification in the form of a line notation for describing the structure of chemical species using short ASCII strings. SMILES strings can be imported by most molecule editors for conversion back into two-dimensional drawings or three-dimensional models of the molecules. The original SMILES specification was initiated in the 1980s. It has since been modified and extended. In 2007, an open standard called OpenSMILES was developed in the open-source chemistry community. History The original SMILES specification was initiated by David Weininger at the USEPA Mid-Continent Ecology Division Laboratory in Duluth in the 1980s. Acknowledged for their parts in the early development were "Gilman Veith and Rose Russo (USEPA) and Albert Leo and Corwin Hansch (Pomona College) for supporting the work, and Arthur Weininger (Pomona; Daylight CIS) and Jeremy Scofield (Cedar River Software, Renton, WA) for assistance in programmin ...

''A Night in the Life'' (subtitled ''Live at the Jazz Standard Vol. 3'') is a live album by saxophonist Frank Morgan which was recorded at the Jazz Standard in 2003 and released on the HighNote label in 2007. Reception The review by AllMusic's Michael G. Nastos said: "Frank Morgan's final release while still alive stands as a testament to his gentle, unassuming soul, his fluid drive playing the bop music born from the seeds and stems germinated by Charlie Parker, and his ability to touch a live audience with music". ''All About Jazz'' reviewer John Barron stated "It would be too convenient to write off ''A Night in the Life'' as just another blowing session with predictable results. What makes this set worthwhile, as well as the previously released '' City Nights: Live at the Jazz Standard, Volume 1'' and '' Raising the Standard: Live at the Jazz Standard, Volume 2'', is the uninhibited passion of an authentic master bearing his soul to an audience who is appreciative of the l ...
