Tingalpa Reservoir
The Leslie Harrison Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam across the Tingalpa Creek that is located in the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The main purpose of the dam is for potable water supply of the Redland City in Brisbane. The impounded reservoir is called Tingalpa Reservoir. The dam was named after Robert Leslie Harrison, a Queensland parliamentarian who died in April 1966. Location and features The dam is located between the suburbs of Capalaba, Chandler and Burbank, approximately southeast of Brisbane. The primary inflow of the reservoir is the Tingalpa Creek, not far above its mouth at Waterloo Bay. The dam is one of a number of dams connected to the South East Queensland Water Grid, and the dam provides approximately 20% of the water supply for Redland City. Capalaba is an urban locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the , Capalaba had a population of 17,333 people. Venman Bushland National Park
Venman Bushland is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 22 km southeast of Brisbane. History Jack Venman purchased 255 acres of land on West Mount Cotton Road in the Shire of Redland in 1954. The land had been heavily logged in the 1900s. Venman paid 2 pounds per acre which was a total of 510 pounds. His early plans for the land were cattle farming but he did not have money to sustain cattle. In 1959, Venman sought work elsewhere and it was noted that the land was returning to its natural state. In the late 1960s Jack discovered surveyors on the property who wanted to develop the land. He turned them down but became concerned for the preservation of the land as bushland. He constructed walking tracks, barbecues and built wooden chairs and tables. In the 1970, he deeded the land to Shire of Albert for $1 and the right to maintain his home on the land. The SEQ Water Grid is a region-wide, long term, water supply scheme that provides a sustainable water infrastructure network for the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The project was the largest urban response to the drought in Australia, which severely affected water supplies in Brisbane and surrounds, particularly between 2004 and 2007. The basic component of the project was a network of potable bulk water pipelines that connect areas that have an oversupply of water to those areas lacking water.
