Tilden Technical High School
Edward Tilden Career Community Academy High School (formerly known as Tilden Technical High School) is a public 4–year high school bordered between the Canaryville and Fuller Park neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Opened in Chicago as Lake High School in 1889, Tilden is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. History The school was founded as Lake High School; located in Lake Township, Cook County, in 1881. In 1889, Lake Township was annexed to the City of Chicago, and the school became part of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system. Several years after being added to the district, The Chicago Board of Education decided that a new building was need for the school; approving a 7–million dollar budget for construction of the new school in 1901. Fuller Park, Chicago
Fuller Park is the 37th of Chicago's 77 community areas. Located on the city's South Side, it is from the Loop. It is named for a small park also known as Fuller Park within the neighborhood, which is in turn named for Melville Weston Fuller, a Chicago attorney who was the Chief Justice of the United States between 1888 and 1910. History 19th century Fuller Park was part of Lake Township until it was annexed by Chicago in 1889. Many Irish Americans, many of whom worked for the railroads or stockyards, lived in Fuller Park after the American Civil War. In 1871, the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway built a railroad roundhouse in the area. After the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, Chicago adopted stronger building codes and developers built beyond the city limits, including what is now Fuller Park, to evade them. Johnny "Red" Kerr
John Graham "Red" Kerr (July 17, 1932 – February 26, 2009) was an American basketball player, coach, and color commentator. He played in the NBA from 1954 to 1966, mainly as a member of the Syracuse Nationals. He later held several coaching and administrative positions before embarking on a thirty-three-year career as a television color commentator for the Chicago Bulls. Playing career High school Although Johnny Kerr's first passion was soccer, an eight-inch growth spurt during his senior year at Tilden Technical High School, and some friendly persuasion from basketball Head Coach Bill Postl and school principal Robert Lakemacher, Kerr turned his attention to basketball. The 6' 9" center soon led his school's basketball team to the 1950 Chicago Public League Championship.
