Thomas Fleming Wilson
Sir Thomas Fleming Wilson (2 June 1862 – 2 April 1929) was a Liberal MP for North East Lanarkshire for around a year. He was educated at the High School of Glasgow and the University of Glasgow. He was first elected at the general election of January 1910. He was re-elected in December 1910, but resigned shortly after, forcing a by-election in March 1911. He was active during the First World War in several areas, including as Clerk to the General Munitions of War Tribunal for Scotland. He was created a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1918 Birthday Honours. He died in Uddingston Uddingston ( sco, Uddinstoun, gd, Baile Udain) is a small town in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. 1911 North East Lanarkshire By-election
The North East Lanarkshire by-election was a Parliamentary by-election held on 9 March 1911. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. Electoral history Candidates Although there had been no Labour candidate at the last election, there had been a Labour candidate in January 1910, who finished bottom of the poll. For this by-election, John Robertson was selected as the Labour candidate and was sponsored by the Scottish Miners' Federation. This was the first instance in the 1910-18 parliament in which Liberal and Labour candidates had opposed each other. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service.
