The Ukrainian National Association (UNA) ( uk, Український народний союз), known before 1914 as the Ruthenian National Union ( uk, Руський Народний Союз), is a North American fraternal organization founded in Shamokin, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1894 when the first wave of immigrants from the territories of today's Western Ukraine came to the United States and Canada. History Originally called the Ruthenian National Union ( uk, Руський Народний Союз), it was partly established to counter the influence of the Hungarian-oriented Greek Catholic Union of the USA. ''Chronicling America'' is an open access, open source newspaper database and companion website. It is produced by the United States National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP), a partnership between the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The NDNP was founded in 2005. The ''Chronicling America'' website was publicly launched in March 2007. It is hosted by the Library of Congress. Much of the content hosted on ''Chronicling America'' is in the public domain. The database is searchable by key terms, state, language, time period, or newspaper.
