The Slant (band)
The Slant was an American experimental, psychedelic, indie, alternative, folk/rock music group based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The group has received favorable reviews from National Public Radio and various other media outlets. The Slant used traditional and non-traditional instruments, as well as various sounds produced by objects not typically classified as musical instruments. These sounds can include desks, doors, suitcases, drawers, nails on chalkboard, cigarboxes, pages fluttering, TV static, forks, hammering of nails, amp pops, firebells, vacuum cleaners, and stairwells. History The band had five members - Brad Austin, Zach Dow, Adam Dow, and Mark Zedonek of Coudersport, Pennsylvania, and Andre Costello of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Experimental Music
Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Experimental compositional practice is defined broadly by exploratory sensibilities radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music. Elements of experimental music include Indeterminacy in music, indeterminate music, in which the composer introduces the elements of chance or unpredictability with regard to either the composition or its performance. Artists may also approach a hybrid of disparate styles or incorporate unorthodox and unique elements. The practice became prominent in the mid-20th century, particularly in Europe and North America.
