The Cheerful Squadron
''The Cheerful Squadron'' ( it, Allegro squadrone, french: Les gaietés de l'escadron) is a 1954 Italian-French historical war comedy film directed by Paolo Moffa and starring Vittorio De Sica, Daniel Gélin, Alberto Sordi and Silvana Pampanini. It is the third adaptation of a story by Georges Courteline about life in the French military in the late nineteenth century. The film's sets were designed by the art director Gianni Polidori. Paolo Moffa
Paolo Moffa (16 December 1915 – 2004) was an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter. He directed seven films between 1943 and 1982. Born in Rome, Moffa started his career in the 1930s as a script supervisor. Mainly active as an executive producer, he was also second unit director for numerous films until 1958. ''Fun in the Barracks'' (French: ''Les Gaîtés de l'escadron '' or ''Les Gaietés de l'escadron'') is a 1932 French comedy film directed by Maurice Tourneur and starring Raimu, Jean Gabin and Fernandel. It was based on a play by Georges Courteline and Edouard Nores. Tourneur was remaking the story, having previously filmed a silent version in 1913. Oreste Lionello
Oreste Lionello (18 April 1927 – 19 February 2009) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Lionello was born in Rhodes (which was then a possession of Italy), to Calabrian parents, and grew up in Reggio Calabria. He began his career as a theatre actor, and was considered amongst the founders of Italian cabaret. In 1953 he entered the Musical Theatrical Company of RAI (Italian state TV) and the following year he debuted in television with ''Marziano Filippo'', a boys' show. In the 1960s, he was one of the founders of the Bagaglino comic theatre and TV company and he had found success as an entertainer on Italian TV in the 1970s and 1980s. As an actor, Lionello acted in over 56 feature films and several television shows. He appeared in five episodes of ''Le avventure di Laura Storm'' and he made his debut film appearance in ''The Cheerful Squadron''. Giacomo Matteo Furia (2 January 1925 – 5 June 2015) was an Italian film, television and stage actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1948 and 1998. Life and career Born in Arienzo, near Caserta, Furia started his acting career thanks to Eduardo De Filippo, he had met through an after-school summer job; he made his professional debut on stage in 1945, in De Filippo's "Napoli milionaria". He made his film debut three years later, in Mario Mattoli's '' Assunta Spina''; mainly cast in character roles, he was often a sidekick of Totò, notably landing a major role in ''The Band of Honest Men''. Peter Francis Trent, (born 5 January 1946) is an English-born Canadian businessman and politician. He was mayor of Westmount, Quebec until his retirement in April 2017. He was first elected as councillor in 1983. He served as mayor from 1992 to 2001; he left politics at that time due to the forced merger with the City of Montreal. He again became Mayor of Westmount by acclamation during the 1 November 2009 municipal election. Born in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, Trent and his family immigrated to Toronto when he was 10. In 1968, at the age of 22 he left McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario to work for a chemical company in Montreal.
