Textile Museum Sarawak
The Textile Museum Sarawak ( ms, Muzium Tekstil Sarawak) is a textile museum in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. History The museum building was originally built in 1907 as medical center. It was then later housed the Education Department of Sarawak State Government. In August 2000, it was eventually turned into the Textile Museum Sarawak. Architecture The museum is housed in a 3-story building with colonial British renaissance theme named the Pavilion Building. The upper two floors house the permanent exhibition. Helmshore Mills Textile Museum
Helmshore Mills are two mills built on the River Ogden in Helmshore, Lancashire. Higher Mill was built in 1796 for William Turner, and Whitaker's Mill was built in the 1820s by the Turner family. In their early life they alternated between working wool and cotton. By 1920 they were working shoddy as condensor mule mills; and equipment has been preserved and is still used. The mills closed in 1967 and they were taken over by the Higher Mills Trust, whose trustees included historian and author Chris Aspin and politician Dr Rhodes Boyson, who maintained it as a museum. The mills are said to the most original and best-preserved examples of both cotton spinning and woollen fulling left in the country that are still operational. Following the withdrawal of its grant from Lancashire County Council, the museum closed to the public on 30 September 2016 for an indefinite period. History Historically a textile and fashion industry was centered at Borås and the area of Sjuhäradsbygden in southern Västergötland of Västra Götaland County. Sweden's textile industry began to build up in the early 19th century. Decline of the Swedish textile industry from the 1950s resulted in reduced employment leading into the mid-1970s. The Textile Museum in Borås started in 1972 in the premises of a former textile factory, Åkerlunds Bomullsspinneri AB. The Quilters' Guild Museum Collection, which opened in St Anthony's Hall, York on 7 June 2008, was Britain's first museum dedicated to the history of British quilt making and textile arts. The museum was founded and operated by The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles. The Guild was formed in 1979 and is the national organisation representing quilt makers throughout the country.
