Tasmanian Cricket Association
Cricket Tasmania (formerly the ''Tasmanian Cricket Association'') is the administrative body for cricket in Tasmania, Australia, and they are based at Bellerive Oval. Cricket Tasmania's primary purpose is to promote and develop the game of cricket in Tasmania, run junior and educational programmes and competitions and administer the Tasmanian Grade Cricket competitions. Cricket Tasmania is also responsible for the selection and administration of Tasmania's first class cricket team, the Tasmanian Tigers are part of the Association. They compete in the Sheffield Shield, the Australian first-class competition, and the Ford Ranger Cup, the Australian one-day competition, and the domestic Twenty20 competition. The current president of Cricket Tasmania (CT) is Glenn Gillies, and the current chairman is Tony Harrison, and he presides over a board which oversees all the activities of the TCA, and cricket in Tasmania. Cricket Australia (CA), formerly known as the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia. It was originally formed in 1905 as the 'Australian Board of Control for International Cricket'. It is incorporated as an Australian Public Company, limited by guarantee. Cricket Australia operates all of the Australian national representative cricket sides, including the Men's, the Women's and Youth sides. CA is also responsible for organising and hosting Test tours and one day internationals with other nations, and scheduling the home international fixtures. TCA Ground
The TCA Ground, or Tasmanian Cricket Association Ground, is one of two first-class standard cricket grounds in Hobart, Tasmania. It is located on the Queens Domain less than one kilometre from the CBD. The TCA Ground is a picturesque ground with a village feel and white picket boundary which could easily belong in the English countryside, except for the typical Australian Eucalypt bushland which hugs the boundary line. Due to its elevated position on the Domain the ground has commanding views over the River Derwent and city, as well as being dominated by views of Mount Wellington. This elevated position also exposes the ground to strong sea breezes which can provide excellent assistance for bowlers. During a match between the touring South African team and a Combined XI in December 1963, South African captain Trevor Goddard appealed to the umpires about the strength of the wind, which led to play being suspended. Cricket In Tasmania
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket.
