Tanzania Military Academy
The Tanzania Military Academy (TMA) is a military training academy located in Monduli in northern Tanzania. It is regarded as a prestigious training institution and has trained officers from a number of countries across the region. History The academy was constructed with assistance from the Government of China and was formally inaugurated by President Julius Nyerere in 1976. At inception, it was known as the National Leadership Academy ( sw, Chuo cha Taifa cha Uongozi) before being renamed its present name in 1992 after the country's transition to a multiparty system. Over the years, it has trained officers from Kenya, Lesotho, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Uganda. Military Academy
A military academy or service academy is an educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps. It normally provides education in a military environment, the exact definition depending on the country concerned. Sam Magara
Sam Magara (died 2 August 1982) was a Ugandan rebel, and one of the National Resistance Army (NRA)'s leading commanders during the early Ugandan Bush War. A long-time associate of NRA leader Yoweri Museveni, he became the latter's second-in-command in 1981 and assumed command of the NRA in his absence. However, he fell into disfavor after the NRA's internal security network alleged that he was planning to overthrow Museveni. Magara was eventually killed by security forces in Kampala in late 1982. John Mutwa
Lieutenant General John Sinvula Mutwa (23 September 1960 – 17 June 2021) was a Namibian military officer whose last appointment was as chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). He was appointed the commander of the Namibian Army in 2011, and NDF Chief on 31 December 2013, a position from which he retired on 31 March 2020. Career PLAN Mutwa's military career began in 1975 when he joined the Peoples Liberational Army of Namibia in Zambia. Venance Salvatory Mabeyo
Venance Salvatory Mabeyo, also known as Vicent Mabeyo, is a retired Tanzanian military officer who served as the eighth Defense Forces Chief to lead the Tanzania People's Defense Force (TPDF). He was appointed by President John Magufuli on 6 February 2017. After Magufuli's death in March 2021, Mabeyo played a major role in ensuring a smooth transition of power to the new President, Samia Suluhu Hassan. He retired from the TPDF in June 2022. Makongoro Nyerere
Charles Makongoro Nyerere (born 30 January 1959) is a Tanzanian CCM politician and a retired army officer of the Tanzania People's Defence Force. He is currently serving as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly. Early life and career Makongoro was educated at Arusha, Bunge and Isike primary schools from 1964 to 1972. He then joined Tabora Boys Secondary School where he obtained his ordinary and advanced level of education. From 1979 to 1990, he served in the army and is a veteran of the Uganda–Tanzania War. Brigadier Joseph Semwanga, is a Ugandan military officer. He currently serves as the ''Commander of the Armoured Brigade'', based in Masaka. Elly Tumwine
General Elly Tumwine (12 April 1954–25 August 2022), was a Ugandan military officer, professional artist, and educator. He was the former Security Minister in the Cabinet of Uganda, from March 2018 until 2021. He retired from active military service in July 2022. He served as commander of the National Resistance Army from 1984 to 1987. He was one of the highest-ranking members of the Ugandan military who recently called on police to shoot at protester. . Katumba Wamala
Edward Katumba Wamala (born 19 November 1956), more commonly known as Katumba Wamala, is a Ugandan general who serves as Minister of Works and Transport in the Ugandan cabinet, since 14 December 2019. Before that, from 17 January 2017 until 14 December 2019, he served as Minister of State for Works in the Ugandan cabinet. He previously served as the chief of defense forces of Uganda, the highest military rank in the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF), from 2013 until 2017. Jakaya Kikwete
Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (born 7 October 1950) is a Tanzanian politician who was the fourth president of Tanzania, in office from 2005 to 2015. Prior to his election as president, he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005 under his predecessor, Benjamin Mkapa.
