Tübingen Hauptbahnhof is the largest station in the university town of Tübingen and the Tübingen (district), district of Tübingen, and a transport hub in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Location The station is located south of the centre of the old town on the opposite side of the Neckar. It was originally built in open fields, that are now the southern Tübingen districts of Derendingen and Südstadt (Tübingen), Südstadt. In 1960 a bus station was established in the station forecourt (Europaplatz), which is now used by 34 bus routes daily, connecting the station to the entire city. History The line now forming the Plochingen–Immendingen railway, then called the ''Obere Neckarbahn'' (Upper Neckar Railway), was opened from Plochingen to Reutlingen in 1859. The Baden Black Forest Railway (German: ''Badische Schwarzwaldbahn'') is a Double-track railway, twin-track, electrified railway line in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, running in a NW-SE direction to link Offenburg on the Rhine Valley Railway (''Rheintalbahn'') with Singen on the High Rhine Railway (''Hochrheinbahn''). Passing directly across the Black Forest, through spectacular scenery, the route is 150 km long, ascends 650 metres from lowest to highest elevation, and passes through 39 tunnels and over 2 viaducts. It is still the only true mountain railway in Germany to be built with two tracks, and is the most important railway line in the Black Forest.
