Like most parks in Oslo, Tøyen Park is a popular recreation area. During summer, groups of people barbecue and fly frisbees, while during winter, tobogganing down the hills is popular. Tøyen Park attracts birdwatchers, where frequently seen birds include the hawfinch. Since 2014, the annual music festival Øyafestivalen has been held here every summer. Oslo

University Botanical Garden (Oslo)
The University Botanical Garden (''Botanisk hage'') is Norway's oldest botanical garden. It was first established in 1814 and is administrated by the University of Oslo. It is situated in the neighborhood of Tøyen in Oslo, Norway. Tøyen Manor The Tøyen estate is rich in history, and the main wing is probably the oldest wooden building in greater Oslo. ''Tøyen i Aker'' was originally an estate owned by the Nonneseter Abbey. Norway's Chancellor Jens Bjelke acquired the property about 1640. King Frederik VI of Denmark later acquired the estate and subsequently gifted the property to the University of Christiania in 1812. In 1814, work began on the University Botanical Garden. Hawfinch
The hawfinch (''Coccothraustes coccothraustes'') is a passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. It is the only species placed in the genus ''Coccothraustes''. Its closest living relatives are the Chinese grosbeak (''Eophona migratoria'') and Japanese grosbeak (''Eophona personata'') of East Asia, and the evening grosbeak (''Hesperiphona vespertina'') and hooded grosbeak (''Hesperiphona abeillei'') of North America. This bird breeds across Europe and temperate Asia (Palearctic). It is mainly resident in Europe, but many Asian birds migrate further south in the winter. Øyafestivalen
Øyafestivalen is an annual Norwegian music festival held in the Tøyen Park, Oslo. It has grown quickly since its modest start in 1999 and has become one of Norway's biggest and most important music festival The festival has previously featured musicians like Sonic Youth, Iggy and The Stooges, Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles, Morrissey and Beck. The festival lasts for four days in the main park area, and is preceded by a club night where the festival holds concerts in more or less all of Oslo's central clubs. The remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen and t .... It is the biggest swimming pool facility in the country. Situated in Helgesens Gate 90, it was designed by architect Gert Walter Thuesen. It was built in 1976 and contains indoor and outdoor swimming pools. It was closed for refurbishment in spring 2007 and re-opened in autumn 2008; six months later than planned. Within months of this refurbishment, the facility was experiencing water leakage problems. Due to persistent maintenance and structural problems, the facility closed permanently in January 2020, to be entirely demolished and rebuilt. Re-opening is expected in 2023.
