Töysä is a List of former municipalities of Finland, former municipality in Western Finland. It was consolidated to Alavus on 1 January 2013. It is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia regions of Finland, region. The municipality had a population of (31 December 2012) and covered an area of of which was water. The population density is . Most inhabitants speak Finnish language, Finnish, with hardly any other languages being spoken. Töysä is known for its shopping village Tuuri and the Veljekset Keskinen department store. History The village of ''Töysäjärvi'' was established sometime before 1568. It was larger than the modern Töysä and a part of the Lapua parish. When the Kuortane chapel community was formed in 1645, Töysäjärvi was one of its villages. By the 17th century, the village's name had been shortened to ''Töysä''. Olli-Pekka Karjalainen
Olli-Pekka Karjalainen (born 7 March 1980 in Töysä) is a Finnish former hammer thrower. The 1998 World Junior Champion, Karjalainen is the world junior record holder with 78.33 metres (7.26 kg). His personal best throw is 83.30, achieved in July 2004 in Lahti. European Championships 2006 Karjalainen took his first medal at the 2006 European Championships by throwing 80.84. He finished second, but became the Champion in 2014 as IAAF decided to strip Ivan Tskikhan of Belarus of the gold medal for doping. Southern Ostrobothnia
South Ostrobothnia ( ; ) is one of the 19 regions of Finland. It borders the regions of Ostrobothnia (administrative region), Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Pirkanmaa, and Satakunta. Among the Finnish regions, South Ostrobothnia is the ninth largest in terms of population. Seinäjoki is the regional centre and by far the largest city in the area. Alavus
Alavus () is a town and municipality of Finland in the province of Western Finland. Part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region, it is located southeast of Seinäjoki, north of Tampere and north of Helsinki. The town has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. Jari-Matti Latvala
Jari-Matti Latvala (; born 3 April 1985) is a Finnish rally driver who has competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC). His co-driver for most of his career was Miikka Anttila, who co-drove for Latvala between the 2003 Rallye Deutschland and 2019 Rally Catalunya. He is well known for his aggressive driving style, which earns him many plaudits, and comparisons to the late Colin McRae. With 18 event victories in the WRC, he is one of the most successful drivers to not have won a championship. Latvala is also the driver with the most World Rally starts in the sport which he achieved in 2019, 17 years after his debut. Starting in 2021, he served as the team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, replacing Tommi Mäkinen. Veljekset Keskinen Oy (''Keskinen Brothers'') is a department store in Tuuri, Alavus, Finland. In addition to the General Store and the Food Store, the shopping center includes Hotel OnnenTähti, the Onnela caravan park, the Village Store Gas Station, restaurant services and in the summer, a yard sale. Outside entrepreneurs operate on Kauppakatu. Over the years, a shopping village of dozens of companies has grown around the Village Store. It receives over 6 million customers per year, and is the largest department store in Finland. The store is a tourist attraction as well as a regular department store. Western Finland
Western Finland (, ) was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Oulu, Eastern Finland and Southern Finland. It also bordered the Gulf of Bothnia towards Åland. Jani Wickholm (born 20 September 1977, in Kerava) is a Finnish pop/rock singer. He came in second place on the Finnish MTV3 show ''Finnish Idols'' in 2004 after Hanna Pakarinen. Both Wickholm and Pakarinen had previously worked as truck-drivers. Wickholm's albums have been comparably successful to the albums of Hanna Pakarinen.
