Törökszentmiklós
Törökszentmiklós is a town in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, in the Northern Great Plain region of central Hungary. It is the third-largest settlement in the county. Geography It covers an area of and has a population of 23,145 (2002). History The settlement was first mentioned (as ''Zenthmyclos'') in charters of Sigismund, King Zsigmond in 1399. In 1552 the castle of Balaszentmiklós fell under the Turkish siege. ("Törok" is Hungarian for "Turkish".) In 1685 it was destroyed. In 1738 the settlement, then known as Török Szent Miklós, became a market town. Politics Between the 1990s and 2014 local politics were dominated by Fidesz and Fidesz-supporting independent groups, but Jobbik became the majority party in the Municipal Assembly at the 2014 Hungarian local elections. Imre Kovács (handball)
Imre Kovács (26 November 1921 – 9 March 1996) was a Hungarian footballer who played as a midfielder for Hungary in the 1954 FIFA World Cup. He also played for MTK Budapest FC. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The sport is usually played indoors, but outdoor variants exist in the forms of field handball, Czech handball (which were more common in the past) and beach handball.
