Tây Lộc Airfield (also known as Huế Citadel Airfield) is a former United States Air Force (USAF), U.S. Army and Republic of Vietnam Air Force (RVNAF) airfield located within the Huế Citadel in Thừa Thiên–Huế Province, Vietnam. The Cessna O-2 Skymaster (nicknamed "Oscar Deuce") is a military version of the Cessna 337 Super Skymaster, used for forward air control (FAC) and psychological operations (PSYOPS) by the US military between 1967 and 2010. The Trấn Bình đài, also called Mang Cá Garrison (), is a small fortress on the northeast corner of the Imperial City, Huế. History Constructed during the Nguyen dynasty, it was designed to control movement on the Perfume River. Another fortress, Trấn Hải Thành, was constructed in 1813 to protect the capital against assault from the sea. The fortress follows the French military engineer Vauban's typical layout, and has 21 canon emplacements. During the Vietnam War the Mang Ca Garrison and the surrounding area served as the headquarters for the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) 1st Division. During the Battle of Huế in February 1968, People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) forces attempted to overrun the base, but were held back by an ad hoc force of 1st Division troops. Ngô Quang Trưởng (13 December 1929 — 22 January 2007) was an officer in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). Trưởng gained his commission in the Vietnamese National Army in 1954 and moved up the ranks over the next decade, mostly in the Airborne Brigade. In 1966, Trưởng commanded a division for the first time after he was given command of the 1st Division after helping to quell the Buddhist Uprising. He rebuilt the unit after this divisive period and used it to reclaim the city of Huế after weeks of bitter street fighting during the Tết Offensive. In 1972, he was made the commander of I Corps after incompetent leadership by General Hoàng Xuân Lãm resulted in a South Vietnamese collapse in the face of the Easter Offensive, a massive conventional invasion by North Vietnam.
