Tyra (Třinec)
Tyra (Polish language, Polish: ) is a village in Frýdek-Místek District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It was a separate municipality but became administratively a part of Třinec in 1980. Tyrka flows through the village. It has a population of 445 (1 January 2008) and lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. The name of the village is of topographic origins derived from an older name of the local river Tyrka (also known as Tyra). History The village was first mentioned in 1577 in urbarium which states that it had only one citizen, so the village was in the very early process of formation. Originally it was part of the village Oldřichovice (Třinec), Oldřichovice (in 1657 described as ''der Oldrzychowitzer dielniczen andern seyten biß zu dem Waßer Tyra gelegen'') but grew to become an independent village. The Tyra (also called Tyrka) is a stream in the Czech Republic, a left tributary of the Olza River. It flows through Třinec in the Moravian-Silesian Region. It is long. Name The stream was originally officially named Tyrka (diminutive of Tyra), but during the era of Austria-Hungary it was mistakenly labeled as Tyra by an Austrian soldier, and has retained that name ever since. Locals call the stream only Tyrka, but efforts to officially rename it back to Tyrka were abandoned in 2023 due to the costs it would entail. Tyra Field is the largest gas condensate field in the Danish Sector of the North Sea. It was discovered in 1968 and production started in 1984. The field is owned by Dansk Undergrunds Consortium, a partnership between Total, BlueNord and Nordsofonden, and operated by Total.
