''Two Man Band'' is a collaboration between guitarists Peter Tork and James Lee Stanley released in 1996 by Beachwood Recordings. It was Tork's second studio album without The Monkees and the first of three collaborations with Stanley. Reception Aaron Badgley of ''AllMusic'' wrote "Both artists compliment each other and the music is very accessible. Tork has a wonderfully pleasing and distinctive voice, and Stanley's voice is a perfect blend." In particular, Badgley calls the recording of The Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday" "outstanding", adding "one wonders what direction the Monkees would have taken had Tork had more control." Peter Tork
Peter Halsten Thorkelson (February 13, 1942 – February 21, 2019), better known by his stage name Peter Tork, was an American musician and actor. He was best known as the bass guitarist and keyboardist of the Monkees and co-star of the NBC The Monkees (TV series), television series of the same name (1966–68). Tork grew up in Connecticut, and in the mid-1960s as part of the Greenwich Village folk scene in New York City, he befriended musician Stephen Stills. After moving to Los Angeles with Stills, he auditioned for a new musical television sitcom, ''The Monkees''. The series ran from 1966 to 1968 and made Tork and his co-stars teen idols. James Lee Stanley (born April 30, 1946) is an American folk singer-songwriter. Stanley was also a regular extra on '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' for six seasons. ''Stranger Things Have Happened'' is a 1994 album by former Monkees member Peter Tork. Although he had been performing since the 1960s, this was his first and only solo release. The album includes several original compositions, and covered a range of styles from folk ("Giant Step") to hard rock ("Miracle") to pop ("MGB-GT"). Reception Bruce Eder of AllMusic wrote "No one's going to believe it, but this is a good album, from Peter Tork no less. Most of the songs are sung with passion and the voice is much better than it was on, say, 'Shades of Gray' 28 years earlier. The Monkees
The Monkees were an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1960s. The band consisted of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones (musician), Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Pleasant Valley Sunday
"Pleasant Valley Sunday" is a song by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, recorded and released by the Monkees in the summer of 1967. Inspired by their move to West Orange, New Jersey, and named after a street there, Goffin and King wrote the song about Goffin's dissatisfaction with life in the suburbs. The Monkees' version differs somewhat from Goffin and King's demo, and their recording features a distinctive guitar intro played by Michael Nesmith and a heavily reverberated fade-out. It became one of the Monkees' most successful singles, peaking at No. 3 and continuing a string of top ten hits. The song was included on '' Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.'', the group's fourth album, in November 1967. The MGB is a two-door sports car manufactured and marketed from 1962 until 1980 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), later the ''Austin-Morris'' division of British Leyland, as a four-cylinder, soft-top sports car sold under the MG marque.
