''Twilight Zone'' is a widebody pinball machine, designed by Pat Lawlor and based on the TV series of the same name. It was first released in 1993 by Midway (under the Bally label). This game is part of WMS' '' SuperPin'' line of widebody games alongside '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'' and '' Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure''. Description Following the huge success of '' The Addams Family'' pinball game, Midway gave Lawlor full creative control over the design of his next game, and the result is an unusually complex machine. Midway Games
Midway Games Inc., known previously as Midway Manufacturing and Bally Midway, and commonly known as simply Midway, was an American video game developer and publisher. Midway's franchises included '' Mortal Kombat'', ''Rampage'', '' Spy Hunter'', '' NBA Jam'', ''Cruis'n'', and '' NFL Blitz''. "Twilight Zone" is a 1982 hit by Dutch band Golden Earring. It was written by the band's guitarist George Kooymans, who drew inspiration from the book '' The Bourne Identity''. "Twilight Zone" appears on their 1982 album '' Cut'' and pays tribute to the 1960s television series ''The Twilight Zone''. It spent more than half a year (27 weeks) on the U.S. Pop charts. Edward John Boon (born February 22, 1964) is an American video game programmer, voice actor, and director who was employed for over 15 years at Midway Games and since 2011 has worked for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in its daughter company NetherRealm Studios. Boon is best known for the widely popular '' Mortal Kombat'' series, which he created with John Tobias, and the ''Injustice'' series. Life and career Boon was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, on February 22, 1964 and graduated from high school at Loyola Academy in Wilmette. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "Pop! Goes the Weasel" ( Roud 5249) is a traditional English and American song, a country dance, nursery rhyme, and singing game that emerged in the mid-19th century. It is commonly used in Jack-in-the-box toys and for ice cream trucks. The song is honored annually on June 14 which is National Pop Goes the Weasel Day in the USA. Origin In the early 1850s, Miller and Beacham of Baltimore published sheet music for "Pop goes the Weasel for Fun and Frolic". This is the oldest known source that pairs the name to this tune. ''Earthshaker!'' is a pinball game designed by Pat Lawlor and released by Williams Electronics in 1989. The game features an earthquake theme and was advertised with the slogan "It's a Moving Experience!" Some prototypes have a building that when the shaker motor is activated will fall down but the team removed it due to cost savings. ''Earthshaker!'' was the first pinball machine with a shaker motor that causes the table to rumble along with the theme of the game. Description The player assumes the role of an earthquake researcher and has to visit various zones along the California-Nevada border. During the game the two states split apart and becoming a rail for the ball. Sample games feature an "Earthquake Institute" building that sinks into the playfield. ''Whirlwind'' is a pinball machine produced by Williams in 1990 and was one of the last Williams System 11b games. It was designed by Pat Lawlor, who created a previous natural disaster-themed pinball for Williams, ''Earthshaker!''. Gameplay ''Whirlwind'' is distinguished by three playfield rotating discs, and a fan topper that blows wind on the player at certain times in the game. The objective in ''Whirlwind'' is to move the storm using the compass targets to light ball locks for multiball. Continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSD or CVSDM) is a voice coding method. It is a delta modulation with variable step size (i.e., special case of adaptive delta modulation), first proposed by Greefkes and Riemens in 1970. CVSD encodes at 1 bit per sample, so that audio sampled at 16 kHz is encoded at 16 kbit/s. The encoder maintains a reference sample and a step size.
