''On Tour'' () is a 1990 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Gabriele Salvatores. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. It is the second installment of Salvatores' "escape trilogy", after ''Marrakech Express''; like its predecessor, it is a road movie, and features Diego Abatantuono playing the protagonist. Plot Two thirty-five-year-old actors, Dario and Federico, friends since school, set off on a "tour" from Apulia to Emilia Romagna to play "The Cherry Orchard" by Anton Chekhov. Extroverted and with precise cinematographic ambitions, Dario tries to encourage the introverted Federico, now depressed because neglected by Vittoria, a radio announcer. She, unbeknownst to Federico, is romantically linked with Dario, to whom she gave the unpleasant task of informing his friend. Diego Abatantuono
Diego Abatantuono (born 20 May 1955) is an Italian cinema and theatre actor, comedian and screenwriter, three-time winner of the Nastro d'Argento. Biography and career Abatantuono was born in Milan to a father of Apulian origin and a mother from Como. The latter worked as a wardrober in a Milanese jazz and later cabaret club, ''Derby'', whose owner was Abatantuono's uncle. He started to work at ''Derby'' first in lighting, then as an artistic director and later as an actor. His first approach to cinema took place thanks to the comedic group I Gatti di Vicolo Miracoli, who brought him with them to audition. Here he was noticed by director Romolo Guerrieri, who offered him a part in the film '' Young, Violent, Dangerous''. Paolo Virzì
Paolo Virzì (; born 4 March 1964) is an Italian film director, writer and producer. Early life and work Virzì was born in Livorno, Italy, in 1964, as the son of a Sicilian police officer in the Carabinieri and a former singer. After spending his early childhood in Turin in the north of Italy, Virzì's family moved back to Livorno where he grew up in the working class area of "Le Sorgenti". As a small boy, he started to cultivate his lifelong passion for literature: Mark Twain and Charles Dickens were among his favourite authors and their classic "coming of age" novels would later serve as a model for his screenplays. Gabriele Salvatores (born 30 July 1950) is an Italian Academy Award-winning film director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Naples, Salvatores debuted as a theatre director in 1972, founding in Milan the Teatro dell'Elfo, for which he directed several avant-garde pieces until 1989. In that year, he directed his third feature film, '' Marrakech Express'', which was followed in 1990 by '' Turné''.
