"Turn the Lights Out" is a single by British Grindie band Hadouken! from their second album, For the Masses. It was released digitally on 20 December 2009, peaking at #2 on the UK Electronic Music Chart. Music video The promotional video for the song shows the band playing in a living room that looks to have been badly scorched and burned. A long haired, unshaven man covered in dirt breaks through the floorboards and picks up a Gramophone record and plays it on a turntable. A gathering of dancing people then appear around the band, and the aforementioned man begins to trash the room. As the video ends the man sits down in his armchair and the record stops playing. Hadouken! (band)
Hadouken! are a British band formed in London in 2006 by singer, writer and producer James Smith and synth player Alice Spooner along with guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Christopher Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. The band name is taken from the special attack of the same name from the ''Street Fighter'' video game series. It was in Leeds that Hadouken! began their own record label, Surface Noise Records. History Early years After forming the label, Smith began writing and demoing the first Hadouken! tracks. In February 2007, Hadouken! self-released a two-song limited edition vinyl, a double-a side of " That Boy That Girl" and "Tuning In". ''For the Masses'' is the second studio album by British grindie band Hadouken!. It was recorded in Groningen, The Netherlands during the Summer of 2009, and preceded by the release of the ''M.A.D. Grindie, also known as grime-indie or grime indie, is a form of music that emerged in early 2006. It is a fusion of indie rock or alternative rock and grime music. History Grime producer Statik who coined the named "grindie" initially as a joke, was one of the main proponents of the genre and also one of the first to release an album containing only grindie tracks, ''Grindie Vol. 1'' containing over 60 songs''.'' Statik stated he turned towards creating a new sound due to the staleness he felt the grime scene was experiencing at the time. The genre initially received some criticisms by grime fans who perceived it to be a fad created by magazines, rather than a fully fledged scene. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Noisia (stylised as NOISIΛ; "VISION" turned upside down) was a Dutch electronic music trio consisting of members Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger from Groningen, Netherlands. They produce a wide variety of music including drum and bass, dubstep, breakbeat and house. They have released music under several labels including Skrillex's Owsla, deadmau5's mau5trap and Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Noisia previously combined with the group Foreign Beggars to form the supergroup side project ''I Am Legion''. They released their collaborative '' self-titled album'' on 2 September 2013. "Mic Check" is the third single by British grindie band Hadouken!, released from their second studio album, '' For the Masses''. Background The song was originally going to contain a sample from Double 99's "RipGroove "RipGroove" is the debut single by English speed garage duo Double 99. A huge underground UK club hit in 1997 when first released on an EP as their alias R.I.P. Productions, the song was officially released as a Single (music), single twice, first ...", however due to clearance issues, the sample was removed to prevent delays in the release of the album. When the sample was cleared for use, "Mic Check" was announced as a single. There are three versions of the song; the album version, the radio edit, which is exactly the same as the album version but with the sample reinstated, and a remix which contains the sample and is a heavier, dancier version of the song. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The is a special attack from Capcom's '' Street Fighter'' series of fighting games. Game designer Takashi Nishiyama credits an energy attack called Hadouho (lit. the "Wave Motion Gun"), from the 1970s anime '' Space Battleship Yamato'', as the origin of Hadouken. It is used by the characters Ryu, Ken, Sakura, Akuma (Gouki in Japan) and Gouken. The Hadouken and the Shoryuken are the two archetypal moves of these characters, as well as some of the most iconic and famous elements of the ''Street Fighter'' series or even video games in general.
