Turid Smedsgård
Turid Smedsgård is a Norwegian former handball goalkeeper. She played 113 matches for the Norway women's national handball team from 1978 onwards. She participated at the 1982 World Women's Handball Championship, where the Norwegian team placed seventh. Smedsgård was voted best goalkeeper of the tournament. She represented Glassverket IF and Nordstrand IF. In 1981 she won the Norwegian championship with Glassverket IF beating Skogn IL 16:12 in the final. She retired from club handball in 1994, but made a brief comeback for Bækkelagets SK in 2001. Glassverket IF
Glassverket IF is a soccer and handball club from Drammen, Norway. The club is most famous for their handball team, which currently compete in the second tier of Norwegian handball, the 1. divisjon. The club also facilitates skiing and used to play bandy. History The club was founded on February 11th 1911. The handball department was founded in 1961. In 1974 they won the national championship and national cup in field handball for the first time. In the 1980's the club was in the top division of Norwegian handball, and they won the indoor national championship in 1981. In the 90's they featured mainly in the second and third tier. In 2012 they were promoted to the top division once again. In 2015 the handball club finished 2nd behind Larvik HK. Nordstrand Idrettsforening is a sports club in Nordstrand, Oslo, Norway. The club has sections for alpine skiing, association football and handball. It formerly had sections for orienteering, track and field and Nordic skiing. The club colors are white and blue. Bækkelagets Sportsklub is a Norwegian sports club from Bekkelaget in southern Oslo, founded in 1909. The club has sections for skiing (including ski jumping and biathlon), orienteering, handball, football, floorball and track and field athletics, previously also bandy. It is known for organizing one of the world's largest youth football tournaments, Norway Cup. Handball The club consists of 850 active handball players. The Norway women's national handball team represents Norway at international handball competitions, and is governed by the Norges Håndballforbund (NHF). As of December 2024, Norway has been in 27 finals and is regarded as one of the finest women's national handball teams ever, with 34 medals. Team Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a Handball goalkeeper, goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end.
