Ture (Zande Character)
Ture is a character in the Zande literature, folklore of the Zande people of North Central Africa. A trickster figure, he is "the chief character in Zande folktales", in which he employs what among the Azande is called ''sanza'', or speech with a double meaning. According to E. E. Evans-Pritchard, who collected and published a number of Zande stories, most of them involve Ture. In one Zande animal story, he is named in a short song as someone who might call a child to entice it away from her mother. He is also named in a proverb: ''ba iwafu ture a du sa'', "Ture...had only one operator of the rubbing-board oracle". This is glossed as, "A man has only one real friend among so many acquaintances, who is the one who helps him. There are not many people who would help a man. There are very few who would help him." Ture is a townland in the civil parish of Drumlane, Barony of Loughtee Lower, County Cavan, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Etymology The townland name is an anglicisation of a Gaelic placename, ''An t-Iúr'', meaning 'The Yew Tree'. The local pronunciation is ' ''Chew-R'' '. Tureholm (island)
Tureholm is a small and uninhabited artificial river island in Bäveån, which runs through the city of Uddevalla in Bohuslän, Sweden. It was created in the late 19th century or early 20th century by the local politician and publicist Ture Malmgren (1851–1922), close to his residence Villa Elfkullen. Ture Valleys
Ture Valleys or Ture's Valleys ( and ''Tures dalar'') is a nature reserve in the town of Uddevalla, Sweden. Located by the foot of the mountain Fjällsätern, on which Tureborg Castle stands, close to the Tureborg district, the area is named for Ture Malmgren (1851–1922), a prominent, wealthy and highly eccentric local politician and newspaper owner, once chairman of the Uddevalla city council and founder of '' Bohusläningen''. Originally proposed in 1979, a plan to survey the area was put in place in 1988, and the nature reserve was finally created in 1991. The nature reserve – administrated by Uddevalla Municipality, and about seven hectares large – is a popular hiking area. It consists of a very diverse landscape. Fjällsätern
Fjällsätern is a minor mountain in southern Uddevalla, Sweden. Its summit reaches above sea level according to one 1950 estimate (an earlier one from 1903 put it at 300 Swedish feet), making it the area's second highest. There the local politician and publicist Ture Malmgren (1851–1922) began building his grand Tureborg Castle, today a ruin, in 1899. Along its slopes Malmgren constructed several other structures, among them the likewise faux-medieval summer residence Fjällhyddan, and his own would-be tomb. The area was once completely barren, but Malmgren – who was engaged in the tree-planting movement of that time – promised his wife Hilma that she would one day be able to walk beneath trees on Fjällsätern, and set about planting the thick forest of today. Tureborg Castle
Tureborg Castle is a Castle#Later use and revival castles, faux-medieval castle located in Uddevalla Municipality, Sweden, it sits atop a hill overlooking the neighbourhood of Tureborg . It was constructed during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Today a ruin after a fire in the 1950s, the castle remains a prominent landmark in Uddevalla. History The castle was built by Ture Malmgren, founder of the newspaper Bohusläningen and Liberalism, liberal local politician. Malmgren appears to have been inspired by medieval castles he saw travelling in Germany. Construction began in 1899, and continued until 1912, although it was never fully finished. Uddevalla is a Stad (Sweden), town in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It’s the seat of Uddevalla Municipality. In 2015, it had a population of 34,781, making it the largest town fully in Bohuslän. Uddevalla is located where the river Bäveån opens up into Byfjorden, a fjord in the south-eastern part of Skagerrak. Ekerö Municipality () is a municipalities of Sweden, municipality in the Provinces of Sweden, province of Uppland in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Tureholm Castle
Tureholm Castle is a privately owned castle in Trosa Municipality in Sweden. The castle was built in the 18th century, and is a listed building since 1987. History Tureholm is situated on the location of the original castle that belonged to the nobleman Nils Gädda in the 1300s, and hence received its first name, Gäddeholm. In the 1640s, a new castle was built by Erik Dahlberg, commissioned by Sten Nilsson Bielke. The castle burned down during the Russian fires in 1719. Ten years after the Russian fires, Thure Gabriel Bielke began to build the castle again and since then it has looked like it does today, it is also after him that the castle has been named Tureholm. In Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, one can see the castle that burned down and conclude that the castle we see today is quite similar to what was before, but without a similarly well-maintained park.
