Troféu Mesa Redonda () is an award held by TV Gazeta and Fundação Cásper Líbero to honor the best players of each season of Brazilian football. History Held for the first time in 2004, the award aims in the same way as the Bola de Ouro, Bola de Prata, a traditional award from ''Revista Placar'', but focusing on the performance of athletes throughout the all tournaments in the season, not just in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Rules The trophy is awarded in a first stage by voting open to the public on the internet, with the three players with the most votes by position (goalkeepers, midfielders, etc.) sent to a second stage, where sports journalists from the Mesa Redonda program and other notables choose the final winners. Team of the Year Players marked bold won the "Best Player award" in that respective year. Rede Gazeta (), also known as TV Gazeta or only Gazeta (in English, (the) Gazette Network) is a Brazilian television network based in São Paulo. History TV Gazeta was founded in 1970 in São Paulo. It is part of Cásper Líbero Foundation. It was one of the first Brazilian TV stations to broadcast in color in 1970, together with RecordTV, Rede Bandeirantes, Rede Globo, Rede Tupi and TV Cultura. Dejan Petković ( sr-Cyrl, Дејан Петковић, ; born 10 September 1972) is a Serbian football pundit and retired footballer. In his native country he is widely known under the nickname Rambo while in Brazil he is known as Pet. He played six times for the FR Yugoslavia, scoring one goal. Paulo César Fonseca do Nascimento (born 13 January 1978), known as Tinga, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a central midfielder. After making a name for himself at Grêmio, he went on to play professionally in, other than his country, Japan, Portugal and Germany, representing Borussia Dortmund in the latter nation. Gustavo Nery de Sá da Silva (born 22 July 1977) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Career In February 2004, it was announced Nery would join Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on a four-year contract from São Paulo in the summer. The transfer fee to be paid to São Paulo was reported as €500,000 or €600,000. He missed the beginning of training in the summer due to being called up to the Brazil national team. He was later kept out of action by a hand injury.
