Trocadero Transfer
The Trocadero Transfer, or The Troc, was an after hours nightclub, dance club in operation from December 1977 to the late–1990s in San Francisco, California, U.S.. It was located at 520 4th Street at Bryant in the SoMa neighborhood. The club has been compared to Studio 54 in New York City, and their patrons would travel from other cities to attend the party. The former club building was sold and remodeled, it was renamed the ''Glas Kat'' (from 2000 to 2011) and The Grand (from 2011 until present). History The Trocadero Transfer was founded by Dick Collier in December 1977. The building had once housed a television studio. The club stayed open on Saturday nights until 6 a.m. The entire Golden Gate Business Association (San Francisco's Gay business association) had to go down to the San Francisco Board of Permit Appeals to make sure that the Trocadero got its after hours license, and even then it was a while before the club was allowed to serve alcohol after hours.Diebold, David ... Circuit Party
A circuit party is a large dance event. It extends through the night and into the following day, almost always with a number of affiliated events in the days leading up to and following the main event. Proto-circuit parties in the late 1970s, the precursors of what later became circuit parties, were called disco parties. They lasted only one evening and were held in various large venues in metropolitan areas with large gay populations. Circuit parties were first developed in connection with the early tea dance (gay event), tea dances, attended by a subset of gay men, as well as theme parties held on Fire Island and The Hamptons on Long Island. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus (band), Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. DNA Lounge is an all-ages nightclub, restaurant and coffeehouse, cafe in the SoMa district of San Francisco owned by Jamie Zawinski, a former Netscape programmer and open-source software hacker (free and open source software), hacker. The club features DJ dancing, live music, American burlesque, burlesque performances, and occasionally conferences, private parties, and film premieres. DNA Lounge has seven full Bar (establishment), bars, two stages, four dance floors, and a full service pizza restaurant and cafe. Death Guild
Death Guild is the oldest continually operating gothic/ industrial dance club in the United States, and second in the world (preceded only by Slimelight in London). Death Guild opened on March 15, 1993, and is currently held every Monday at DNA Lounge in San Francisco. Death Guild has always been an 18-and-over dance club, a rarity in San Francisco where most dance clubs are 21+. Death Guild has also been the promoter of most of the gothic and industrial live shows in San Francisco since the mid-1990s. The Death Guild crew have also been responsible for a theme camp at Burning Man since the mid-1990s, which is well known for the Death Guild Thunderdome.
