Triplemanía XVII
Triplemanía XVII was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the AAA promotion, which took place on June 13, 2009 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, Mexico. It was the year an event was held under the Triplemanía chronology. Triplemanía XVII was the third Triplemanía event to take place in Mexico City, and the second to take place in Palacio de los Deportes, site of the previous Triplemanía XVI as well. The show drew close to 16.000 spectators, down from the previous years 19.000 spectators in the same venue. The Triplemanía set reduced the capacity of the arena compared to the previous year but it was not a complete sell out. The show featured two main events, four undercard matches and one untelevised "dark match". The first of two main event matches was a singles match for the AAA Mega Championship, a match that saw challenger Dr. Wagner Jr. defeat the champion El Mesías to win the championship. Promociones Antonio Peña, S.A. de C.V. d/b/a Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (commonly referred to as simply AAA, pronounced "Triple A" – an abbreviation of its original name Asistencia, Asesoría y Administración de Espectáculos, ) is a Mexican lucha libre (professional wrestling) promotion based in Mexico City, Mexico. The promotion was founded in 1992, when Antonio Peña broke away from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) to set up his own promotion to have more creative freedom. Since then, AAA has a developed a reputation for its outlandish gimmicks and characters, and more extreme match styles. In addition to the conventional "squared circle", the promotion occasionally uses a hexagonal wrestling ring. The promotion has had working relationships with other Mexican promotions, as well as several American promotions; such as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Major League Wrestling (MLW), and All Elite Wrestling (AEW). El Mesías
Gilbert Cosme Ramírez (born May 25, 1976), better known by his ring name El Mesías, is a Puerto Rican professional wrestler. He is currently signed to WWE, where he performs in its Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) promotion. Cosme began his career in the International Wrestling Association (IWA) based in Puerto Rico, under the ring name Ricky Banderas. While performing in the company, he won the IWA World Heavyweight Championship on five instances and held minor championships on fifteen separate occasions, before leaving the company in 2006. On March 12, 2006, he debuted in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), a promotion based in Mexico, as a character named Muerte Cibernetica and was involved in an angle where this character was "killed". In November 2006, Cosme was involved in the tapings of the Wrestling Society X television series, where he was the second and last wrestler to win the WSX Championship.
