TriQuarterly
''TriQuarterly'' is a name shared by an American literary magazine and a series of books. The journal is published twice a year under the aegis of the Northwestern University Department of English and features fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, literary essays, reviews, a blog, and graphic art. The current faculty advisor for TriQuarterly is Natasha Trethewey. The TriQuarterly book imprint is published by Northwestern University Press. Founding ''TriQuarterly'' journal was established in 1958 as an undergraduate magazine remembered now for publishing the work of young Saul Bellow. It was reshaped in 1964 by Charles Newman as an innovative national publication aimed at a sophisticated and diverse literary readership. Charles Newman (author)
Charles Hamilton Newman (May 27, 1938 – March 15, 2006) was an American writer, editor and dog breeder, best known for the novel ''White Jazz''. Life Charles Newman was born in St. Louis, Missouri, which his family had lived in since "it was a little village of French and Spanish inhabitants." However, after World War II his father, a furniture salesman, moved Newman and his mother to a suburban housing tract north of Chicago, next to a horseradish bottling plant. A renowned high school athlete, Newman attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, Illinois and led the school to championships in football, basketball and baseball. At Yale University, Newman won the Bellamy Prize for best thesis in American history and dated author Carol Brightman; his best friend was the author Leslie Epstein. Christine Schutt
Christine Schutt, an American novelist and short story writer, has been a finalist for the National Book Award for Fiction and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She received her BA and MA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and her MFA from Columbia University. She is also a senior editor at ''NOON'', the literary annual published by Diane Williams. Angela Jackson (born July 25, 1951) is an American poet, playwright, and novelist based in Chicago, Illinois. Patricia Smith (born 1955) is an American poet, spoken word, spoken-word performer, playwright, author, writing teacher, and former journalist. Parneshia Jones
Parneshia Jones (born 1980) is an American publisher, poet, and editor. She is the author of a 2015 poetry collection, ''Vessel'', which won the Midwest Book Award. In 2020, Jones was appointed director of Northwestern University Press. Life Hailing from Evanston, Illinois, Parneshia Jones grew up visiting her neighborhood library frequently. When she was in sixth grade, she wrote her first poem, about her brother. Through writing this first piece of poetry, she found her passion for writing and poetry. Jones graduated from Chicago State University with a Creative Writing degree and went on to get her Master of Fine Arts degree from Spalding University. She began her career in publishing as an intern at Third World Press, where she worked with Haki R. Madhubuti.
