Trevor W. Payne
Trevor Winston Payne, (born 21 December 1948) is a Canadian musician and member of the Order of Canada (1996). He is the founder of the Montreal Black Comunity Youth Choir, as well as the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir. Early life Payne was born in Black Rock, Barbados, on 21 December 1948. He sang as a young toddler, and began studying the piano at the age of 8; he later added the saxophone, percussion, cello and keyboards. He and his family moved to Canada, specifically the city of Montreal, Quebec and he became a Canadian citizen in 1982. He is fluent in English, French, and German. Career In the 1960s, not long after his arrival in Canada, Payne founded Trevor Payne and the Triangle, a group playing soul music and rhythm and blues. Nelson Mandela
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (; ; 18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by fostering racial reconciliation. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997. The West Island () is the unofficial name given to the cities, towns and boroughs at the western end of the Island of Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue () is an on-island suburb located at the western tip of the Island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. John Abbott College (French: ''Collège John Abbott)'' is an English-language public college located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada, near the western tip of the Island of Montreal. Oliver Jones (pianist)
Oliver Theophilus Jones, (born September 11, 1934 in Little Burgundy, Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian jazz pianist, organist, composer and arranger. Musical career Born to Barbadian parents, Oliver Jones began his career as a pianist at the age of five, studying with Mme Bonner in Little Burgundy's Union United Church, made famous by Trevor W. Payne's Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir. He continued to develop his talent through his studies with Oscar Peterson's sister, Daisy Peterson Sweeney, starting at eight years old.
