Tranøy Municipality
Tranøy () is a former municipality in Troms county, Norway. The municipality was situated on the southern coast of the large island of Senja. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into the new Senja Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Vangsvik in the eastern part of the municipality. Other important villages included Stonglandseidet, Skrollsvika, and Å. Prior to its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 204th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Tranøy was also the 352nd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 1,513. The municipality's population density was and its population has decreased by 1.6% over the previous decade. The nearly-abandoned island of Tranøya, with the 18th-century wooden Tranøy Church, used to be the centre of activities for the municipality. Tranøy Church
Tranøy Church () is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located on the small island of Tranøya, just off the shore of the large island of Senja. It formerly was the main church for the Tranøy parish which is part of the Senja prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform style in 1775 by an unknown architect. The church seats about 210 people. The church is no longer used for regular worship services since the island on which it sits is no longer populated, nor does it have a road connection. It is, however, used periodically for special occasions. Tranøy Lighthouse
Tranøy Lighthouse () is a coastal lighthouse in Hamarøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located along the Vestfjorden, about west of the village of Tranøy. History The lighthouse here was originally built in 1864 and in 1991 the light was automated. The lighthouse has a white, red, or green light (depending on direction) that is occulting three times every 10 seconds. The 27-metre (89 ft) round cast iron tower is painted red with one white horizontal band. The site includes a complete and well-preserved light station, including a -story duplex keeper's house, generator house, boathouse, and farm buildings. The present lighthouse was built in 1914 as the Moholmen Lighthouse in Vågan Municipality, but it was relocated here in 1936 and Moholmen was replaced by a shorter tower. Knut Erik Tranøy
Knut Erik Tranøy (10 December 191819 March 2012) was a Norwegian philosopher. During World War II Tranøy, along with 700 other Norwegian students, was deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany. He was appointed professor at the University of Bergen from 1959, and at the University of Oslo from 1978. His main contributions have been in fields of ethics, particularly in medicine and science. Torstein Tranøy
Torstein Tranøy (8. January 1964 – 7 September 2009) was a Norwegian journalist and writer. He hailed from Trondheim. After starting his journalist career in the local Radio RV, he took journalist education in Oslo, and started working in ''Klassekampen''. He headed the local trade union, and left in protest when editor-in-chief Paul Bjerke was removed in 1997. In 1998 he found work in the business newspaper ''Dagens Næringsliv'', where he worked at the time of his death. His specialty in journalism was labour, trade unions and wage issues. In 2007 he released the book ''Vallas fall'', about the scandal involving Gerd-Liv Valla and Ingunn Yssen. Openly gay, Tranøy was elected leader of the gay rights organization ''Det Norske Forbundet av 1948'' in 1991. He succeeded Kjell Erik Øie. The organization went defunct in 1992 as Norwegian National Association for Lesbian and Gay Liberation was established. Tranøy died suddenly of epilepsy in September 2009. References

Tranøya (Troms)
or is an island in Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located in the Solbergfjorden, about south of the large island of Senja. The island is almost totally uninhabited. There is one farm area on the eastern side of the island. The farm is also the site of the historic Tranøy Church. Today the farm is owned by the local government and used as a retirement and assisted living facility. There is also a small museum on the site. Alstahaug is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Helgeland region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Sandnessjøen. Some of the villages in Alstahaug include Søvika and Tjøtta. Most residents of Alstahaug live in the town of Sandnessjøen which is situated on the island of Alsta. The characteristic Seven Sisters mountain range is found on the eastern part of the island. Local legend has made this chain of peaks into seven sisters, two adjacent peaks representing twin sisters.
