The Transports Montreux–Vevey–Riviera (MVR) is a Swiss railway company. It was formed in 2001 from the merger of four railway companies: the Chemins de fer électriques Veveysans, the Chemin de fer Les Avants-Sonloup, the Chemin de fer Montreux-Glion-Rochers-de-Naye, and the Chemin de fer funiculaire Vevey-Chardonne-Mont Pèlerin. Since this time they have been added to the marketing portfolio of the Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway (MOB) group and are featured as part of their "GoldenPass services." History The oldest part of the Transports Montreux–Vevey–Riviera network is the Territet–Glion funicular railway, which opened in 1883. This was joined at its upper terminus, Glion, in 1892 by the Chemin de fer Glion-Rochers-de-Naye, a rack railway using the Rack railway#Abt, system devised by Roman Abt. The Montreux–Lenk im Simmental line is a metre-gauge electric railway line in Switzerland run by the Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway (MOB) and links Montreux on Lake Geneva by way of Les Avants, Montbovon, Rossinière, Château-d'Œx, Rougemont, Saanen, Gstaad and Zweisimmen with Lenk im Simmental. The Les Avants–Sonloup funicular () is a metre gauge funicular railway in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It links the railway station of Les Avants, on the Montreux–Lenk im Simmental line between Montreux and Montbovon, with an upper terminus at Sonloup. Description The funicular, which was opened on 14 December 1912, runs at a right angle to the MOB line for a distance of and in doing so climbs at a 54% gradient to a height of above Les Avants.
