Transdev Auckland
Transdev Auckland, formerly Veolia Transport Auckland, and Connex Auckland was a subsidiary of Transdev Australasia that ran Auckland's urban passenger trains under contract from Auckland Transport on infrastructure owned and managed by KiwiRail. Auckland Transport receives funding to subsidise these services from the NZ Transport Agency, which receives funding from road user taxes and Crown appropriations, and from the Auckland Council through rates. Transdev also operates Wellington's commuter rail services as Transdev Wellington since July 2016. History The previous operator of the train network in Auckland was Tranz Metro. When the Auckland Regional Council called for tenders for the new contract, Tranz Metro did not tender and Connex (later Transdev) won the tender. Britomart Transport Centre, also known as Britomart railway station, is the public transport hub in the central business district of Auckland and the northern terminus of the North Island Main Trunk railway line. It combines a railway station in a former Edwardian post office, extended with expansive modernist architectural elements, with a bus interchange. It is at the foot of Queen Street, the main commercial thoroughfare of the CBD, with the main ferry terminal just across Quay Street. The centre was the result of many design iterations, some of them being substantially larger and including an underground bus terminal and a large underground car park. Papakura Railway Station
Papakura railway station is a railway station in Papakura, New Zealand, on the Southern Line of the Auckland railway network. History The station was opened on 20 May 1875, as part of the Auckland and Mercer Railway on 20 May 1875, built by Brogden & Co, when it was extended from Penrose. On 2 October 1874 a deputation asked for the contractor to run trains from Penrose to Papakura and some services were available from October 1874. For example, Brogden & Sons ran excursion trains to Drury that month. Initially Papakura was served by 2 trains a day. Westfield Railway Station
Westfield railway station was a station of the Auckland railway network in New Zealand. The station closed to all services on 12 March 2017, following an announcement by Auckland Transport on 17 January 2017, because fewer than 330 passengers used it daily and it required a costly upgrade. The station was 640 metres south of Westfield Junction, where the Eastern and Southern Lines converge. It therefore served both lines. It had an island platform layout and was reached from a pedestrian overbridge at the end of Portage Road. The overbridge also spanned the adjacent Westfield marshalling yards and gives access to KiwiRail's operations centre and locomotive facility. Westfield Junction
Westfield Junction is a railway switching junction on the Auckland railway network in New Zealand. It is north of Otahuhu station and is surrounded by the industrial area of Westfield. Westfield Junction defines the southernmost extremity of the North Auckland Line (NAL) via Penrose and the point where the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) line via Glen Innes intersects with the NAL. The NIMT continues south from Westfield Junction toward Otahuhu and Papakura. Two suburban passenger train services pass through Westfield Junction: Southern Line services between Papakura and Britomart, and Eastern Line services between Manukau and Britomart. The North Auckland Line (designation NAL) is a major section of New Zealand's national rail network, and is made up of the following parts: the portion of track that runs northward from Westfield Junction to Newmarket Station; from there, westward to Waitakere; from there, northward to Otiria via Whangārei. The Newmarket Line is a railway line in Auckland, New Zealand, that runs between Quay Park Junction, near Britomart Transport Centre, and Newmarket Train Station. It is 2.64 km long. The Southern Line in Auckland, New Zealand is the name given to suburban train services that operate between Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland and Pukekohe via Newmarket. Routing From Britomart to Newmarket, Southern Line services use the Newmarket Line, then follow the North Auckland Line to Westfield Junction, and from thence onto the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) line as far as Pukekohe, the terminus of the Southern Line. Manukau Railway Station
Manukau railway station is located at the heart of the campus of the Manukau Institute of Technology in Manukau, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is the terminus station for Eastern Line services between Manukau and Britomart Transport Centre in central Auckland. Access from the station to ground level and to surrounding streets is by stairs, lift or escalator to the ground floor of the 7-level campus building. Station works were essentially finished by October 2011, and the Manukau Branch line, a 2.5 km spur line off the North Island Main Trunk railway, opened on 15 April 2012. Manukau Branch
The Manukau Branch is a spur railway line off the North Island Main Trunk railway from Wiri to Manukau City Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the first fully new section of railway line constructed in Auckland since the Eastern Line in 1930. From Manukau, the branch connects to the NIMT in the north facing direction only. The estimated cost of the project was $50 million. Construction began in June 2008 with completion expected in late 2011. However, due to other work on the Auckland network taking priority, completion was re-scheduled for April 2012. Station works were reported essentially finished by October 2011, and the line opened on 15 April 2012.
