Tracy (; also spelled Tracey, Traci, Tracci, or Tracie, or Trasci), as a British personal name, was originally adopted from Norman surnames such as those of the family ''de Tracy'' or ''de Trasci'' from Tracy-Bocage in Normandy, France. Derived from the Gaulish male name ''Draccios'', or Latin ''Thracius'' ("of Thrace, Thracian"), and the well-identified Celtic suffix '' -āko'' ("place, property"), such Norman surnames themselves sprung from several Tracy place-names in France. Clarissa Tracy
Clarissa Tucker Tracy (November 12, 1818 – November 13, 1905) was an American botanist and educator. Early Life and Education Tracy was born in Jackson, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, daughter of pioneers Stephen Tucker and Lucy Tucker (née Harris). When Tracy was three years old, she began attending local schools, and by about 1832 was teaching, while she continued her studies. From 1835 to 1840 she was both student and teacher at the Franklin Academy in Harford. In 1840 she became assistant at Ladies Seminary, Honesdale, being appointed head around 1842 and holding that post until 1846. In 1844 she spent one term at Troy Female Seminary, New York. Paul Anthony Tracy (born December 17, 1968) is a Canadian-American former professional auto racing driver who competed in CART, the Champ Car World Series and the IndyCar Series. He is known by the nicknames "PT" and "the Thrill from West Hill". He was a color commentator on NBC's IndyCar coverage from 2014 to 2021. Minnie Tracey ( - January 29, 1929) was an American high lyric soprano. Early years Tracey was born in Albany, New York. She studied music abroad, including three years' training under Belgian operatic soprano Marie Sasse. Career In 1890, Tracey debuted in the Geneva Opera House in the role of Marguerite in ''Faust''. She received several curtain calls, and "Her success was unprecedented in the case of a debutante in Geneva." She created roles in some operas written by her friend Jules Massenet, and she sang with Caruso in London. Other cities in which she performed included Bordeaux, Marseilles, Milan, Nice, and Paris. TRACY 168 (born Michael Tracy in 1958) is an American graffiti artist. He pioneered the art form known as Wildstyle. Tracy 168 came to be known as one of the most influential graffiti and street artists of all time, as variations of Wild Style writing spread around the world. He is acknowledged to have been a seminal figure in the development of street art. Margaret Tracey (born March 28, 1967) is an American ballet dancer and educator. She joined the New York City Ballet in 1986, was promoted principal dancer in 1991, and retired in 2002. She served as the director of the Boston Ballet School between 2007 and 2021. Marcus Garin Tracy (born October 2, 1986 in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania) is an American soccer player who plays as a striker. Hugh Travers Tracey was an English ethnomusicologist. He and his wife collected and archived music from Southern and Central Africa. From the 1920s through the 1970s, Tracey made over 35,000 recordings of African folk music. He popularized the mbira (a musical instrument of the Shona people) internationally under the name ''kalimba''. Hugh Tracy saw the importance of music within culture when he worked a tobacco farm in Southern Rhodesia. Here, he experienced music that displayed beliefs and morals, which inspired him to make his filed recordings. Harriet Ruth Brisbane Tracy was born on December 6, 1834, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was a prolific and successful inventor who is credited to have received 27 patients from 1868 to 1915. These patients were in a multitude of fields such as elevators, sewing machines, and crib attachments. Of the 27 patients six were for elevators and seventeen were for sewing machines.Ten of the those patents came during a very productive period from 1890 to 1893. Doreen Isabelle Tracey (April 13, 1943 – January 10, 2018) was a British-born American performer who appeared on the original '' Mickey Mouse Club'' television show from 1955–59.
