Independent Local Radio
Independent Local Radio is the collective name given to commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom. As a result of the buyouts and mergers permitted by the Broadcasting Act 1990, and deregulation resulting from the Communications Act 2003, most commercial stations are now neither independent (although they remain independent from the BBC) nor local, as almost all of them are now relays of a national brand, with all remaining locality reduced to nothing more than a weekday regional programme and localised commercials, news, weather and peak-time travel information. Touch FM (Burton, Lichfield And Tamworth)
Touch FM was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Burton, Lichfield, Tamworth and South Derbyshire, England. Centre FM Centre FM was created as the result of work by the Tamworth Community Radio Association. It was formed in 1993 with the purpose of developing a community radio station for the town and its surrounding areas. In 1996, TCRA, with a group of local businessmen and radio presenters, formed Centre Broadcasting Ltd to apply for the commercial broadcasting licence for South East Staffordshire. In addition to this, there was another rival bid from Burton-based Tower FM, who also did reading books for the blind. Considering there was interest in Burton and Swadlincote and Tamworth and Lichfield, both areas were merged by the Radio Authority. Kenilworth ( ) is a market town and Civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Warwick (district), Warwick District of Warwickshire, England, southwest of Coventry and north of both Warwick and Leamington Spa. Honiley
Honiley is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Beausale, Haseley, Honiley and Wroxall, in the Warwick district, in the county of Warwickshire, England. It is from Kenilworth, and from Coventry on the A4177 road. The 2001 Census recorded a parish population of 62. Honiley was merged with adjoining parishes on 1 April 2007 and can now be found under Beausale, Haseley, Honiley and Wroxall. Coalville
Coalville is a town in the district of North West Leicestershire in Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England. In 2011, it had a population of 34,575. It lies on the A511 road, A511 between Leicester and Burton upon Trent, close to junction 22 of the M1 motorway where the A511 meets the A50 between Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Leicester. The Lincs FM Group was the parent company of several Independent Local Radio (ILR) stations. As of Q2 2019 the group had a combined audience of 524,000. It was based in Lincolnshire, in the UK. History The Lincs FM Group was formed in the early 1990s with the winning of the ILR licence for Lincolnshire. Lincs FM started broadcasting in 1992 and subsequently the Lincs FM Group won and acquired licences to operate other local radio stations across England's Midlands and Yorkshire regions. The Lincs FM Group also had a 33% share in Ipswich 102 and a 51% share in the digital radio multiplexes operating DAB services in Lincolnshire and Suffolk. The New 107 Oak FM was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting in West Leicestershire and Nuneaton North Warwickshire, in the English Midlands. It was owned and operated by ATR Media. History Launching on Wednesday 26 March 2008, the station was established by the merger of two existing stations which originally launched in the late 1990s: existing Lincs FM Group station Fosseway Radio in Hinckley and the acquisition of Oak 107 FM in Loughborough from the CN Group in October 2007. Banbury Sound
Banbury Sound was an Independent Local Radio station serving the Banbury and Brackley areas of north Oxfordshire. Before its closure, it was owned and operated by Quidem and broadcast from studios at Honiley, Warwickshire. History Banbury Sound was initially launched as ''Touch FM'' on Saturday, 25 February 2006. The station's first broadcast featured breakfast presenter Dale Collins, with the inaugural news bulletin read by group editor Daniel Bruce. Owned by the Cumbria-based CN Group, it was the third station in the network to adopt the Touch FM branding, alongside sister stations in Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon. Outside of breakfast and drivetime slots, programming was networked between the three stations. Touch FM (Warwick)
107.3 Touch FM was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to the Warwick, Leamington Spa and Kenilworth areas of Warwickshire. History OFCOM awarded the Warwick licence to the CN Group in January 2006 for their 2-Day FM application. However, it took the group over two years to commence broadcasting, which they eventually did on Friday 4 April at 7 pm under the name of 107.3 Touch Radio. The initial presenter line-up was Ben Day, who left The Severn to take up his new position on Breakfast, Louisa Allen on mid-mornings, Mikey Faulkner on drive and Matt Walters on the evening show. The CN Group later sold its Midland based Touch Radio Network to Quidem. The station was then re-branded to 107.3 Touch FM.
