Torys LLP is a Canadian international corporate law firm with offices in Toronto, Calgary, New York City, New York, Montreal and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Halifax. The firm acts for a wide range of commercial clients and financial institutions in Canada, the United States, and globally. History The firm was founded in 1941 by Toronto business lawyer John Stewart Donald Tory. In the 1960s the firm was renamed Tory Tory DesLauriers & Binnington. In 2000, it merged with New York law firm Haythe & Curley and was briefly known as Tory Haythe before being rebranded to Torys LLP. John Stewart Donald Tory
John Stewart Donald Tory (1903 – August 28, 1965) was a Canadian lawyer and founder of the law firm Torys, based in Toronto, Ontario. Early life Tory was born in Toronto to John Alexander Tory Sr. (1869–1950) and Abigail Georgina Buckley (1875–1961). Tory's father was the youngest of three children and was a company director who became the head of the Ontario division of Sun Life Assurance Company. Tory's great-grandfather, James Tory, was a soldier in the 71st Scottish Regiment. He was captured during the American Revolution and held as a prisoner of war. He later settled in Nova Scotia during the 1780s. J.S.D. Tory attended Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto Schools. Frank Iacobucci
Frank Iacobucci (born June 29, 1937) is a former Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1991 until he retires from the bench in 2004. He was the first Italian-Canadian judge on the court. John Tory
John Howard Tory (born May 28, 1954) is a Canadian lawyer, broadcaster, businessman, and former politician who served as the 65th mayor of Toronto from 2014 to 2023. He served as leader of the Official Opposition in Ontario from 2005 to 2007 while he was leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario from 2004 to 2009.
