Torkel Andreas Trønnes (17 March 1925 – 4 October 2011) was a Norwegian automobile advocate. In his younger days he was a rally driver, among others participating in the three times. He spent thirty years of his professional career as a technical director in Kongelig Norsk Automobilklub. He also wrote in their member magazine ''Motorliv''. Torkel Franzén (1 April 1950, Norrbotten County – 19 April 2006, Stockholm) was a Swedish academic. Biography Franzén worked at the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, in the fields of mathematical logic and computer science. He was known for his work on Gödel's incompleteness theorems and for his contributions to Usenet. Torkel Halvorsen Aschehoug (27 June 1822 – 20 January 1909) was a prominent Norwegian professor, legal scholar, historian and social economist. He also served as a conservative politician and Member of the Norwegian Parliament. Biography Torkel Halvorsen Aschehoug was born at Idd (now Halden) in Østfold, Norway. He grew up in a professional family in which his father and grandfather were both parish priests. He attended Fredrikshalds lærde skole in Halden. In 1839, he entered Royal Frederick University (now University of Oslo), where he later became a professor. In 1844, Aschehoug graduated with a law degree. He subsequently studied abroad with stops including England and Sweden. In 1852, Aschehoug began an over fifty-year career at the University of Oslo. Torkel (Tyrgils or Torgils) Knutsson (died 1306) was Lord High Constable of Sweden, member of the Privy Council of Sweden (''Riksråd''), and virtual ruler of Sweden during the early reign of King Birger Magnusson (1280–1321). Biography Torkel hailed from an old noble family of West Geatish ancestry and was related to the House of Bjälbo (''Folkungaätten''). He was first mentioned in 1282. In documents from 1288, he is mentioned as a knight and a member of the privy council (''Riksråd''). Career Before his death, King Magnus Ladulås ( 1290) ordered his kinsman, Torkel Knutsson, the Constable of the Realm, to be the guardian of his son Birger. When King Magnus Ladulås died, Torkel became regent for the underage Birger Magnusson (1280–1321). Torkel Jonson Lende (17 November 1849 – 11 January 1909) was a Norwegian inventor. In his young days he was a schoolmate of Arne Garborg. Like Garborg he took up teacher's studies, but he quit early to become an inventor. In 1873 Lende went on a tour of the Måløy area together with Sven Aarrestad; they were hired by Vestmannalaget to spread Landsmål culture. Inventions He first made inventions for small-scale home industry, but was soon picked up by the large-scale industry in Stavanger. Torkel Opsahl (17 March 1931 in Stavanger — 16 September 1993 in Geneva) was a Norwegian human rights scholar, professor of the University of Oslo since 1965 and head of the board of its Human Rights Institute since 1987. From 1970 to 1984, he was a member of the European Commission of Human Rights. Between 1977 and 1986, he was a member of the UN Human Rights Committee. In 1992-1993 he chaired an independent commission exploring ways forward for Northern Ireland, out of which came the influential book 'A Citizens' Inquiry: the Opsahl Report on Northern Ireland'. Torkel Ravndal (October 14, 1936 – September 14, 2004) was a weightlifter and powerlifter from Sandnes, Norway. He also toured with his strong man-show. While entertaining with his show, a woman was involved in a car accident nearby, and Ravndal lifted the car off her (enough for other helpers to pull her away). In the process he suffered injuries to his hands as a result of the car's metal bumper cutting into them.
