Tor Øivind Ødegård (born 28 February 1969) is a retired Norwegian middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. He represented Fredrikstad IF and IF Minerva. He finished fourth at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He also competed at the World Championships in 1997 and 1999 without reaching the finals. He became Norwegian champion in 1991 and 1994. His personal best time is 1:45.42 minutes, achieved in August 1997 in Athens. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or 800 meters (American and British English spelling differences#-re.2C -er, US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional British racing distance. 800 m is 4.67 m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic system, aerobic endurance with anaerobic system, anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Vebjørn Rodal (born 16 September 1972) is a Norwegian former middle distance athlete. He is an Olympic champion and won the gold medal in the 800 metres event at the 1996 Summer Olympics with the time 1:42.58. He is also a World Championships bronze medallist, European Championships silver medallist and European Indoor Championships bronze medallist in the 800 metres.
