Tony Olsson
John Tony Olsson (born 13 March 1965 in Visby) is a Swedish former international motorcycle speedway rider. He was a member of the Swedish team that finished third in the 1988 and 1989 World Team Cup finals. He earned 26 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Career Born on the Norland Island Gotland, Tony Olsson began his career with the club Bysarna. In 1982, he made his debut for the senior team and already 1983 he won Rider of the season. He twice finished runner-up in the Swedish Under-21 Championship in 1984 and 1985. One year later in 1986, Olsson finished runner-up in the World Under-21 Championship, despite suffering an engine failure in one heat. In 1988 he played a huge part in Bysarna becoming Swedish champions. The same year he won the Swedish Pairs Championship with former World Champion Per Jonsson. The Malexander murders () were the murders of two police officers, Robert Karlström and Olle Borén, at Malexander, Sweden, on 28 May 1999. The murders were committed after a bank robbery in Kisa, Sweden, Kisa earlier that day. Three men were convicted of the crimes, Tony Olsson, Andreas Axelsson and former mercenary Jackie Arklöv. The murders in Malexander were among the most high-profile cases in Sweden. The three perpetrators were active neo-Nazis and the robbery spree before the murders was committed as part of their plan to collect money to fund and create a "revolutionary" Nazi organization. Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985, each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. In 1987, the three meeting system was used again, but this time the aggregate points scored by the individual riders were added together to determine the champion. 1988 saw the championship revert to the original format. 1989 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1989 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 44th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. It was the second time the championship was held in West Germany after previously being held in Norden in 1983. The World Final was held at the Olympic Stadium in Munich. Hans Nielsen made up for his 1988 run-off defeat to Erik Gundersen by scoring a 15-point maximum to take his third World Championship. Nielsen joined fellow Danes Ole Olsen and Erik Gundersen as a three time speedway world champion. Simon Wigg from England finished second with the slick, track suiting his long track style. Wigg defeated fellow Englishman Jeremy Doncaster in a run-off for second and third places. The Sweden national speedway team are one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History The Sweden speedway team has won the Speedway World Team Cup and Speedway World Cup on ten occasions and were a major force in the opening years of the tournament, winning four out of the first five, between 1960 and 1964. Key riders of the period were Ove Fundin, Rune Sörmander, Björn Knutson, Göte Nordin and Sören Sjösten. The cup eluded them for 23 years between 1971 and 1993, but they regained the trophy in 1994, when Tony Rickardsson, Henrik Gustafsson and Mikael Karlsson were successful. 1994 British League Division Two Season
The 1994 British League Division Two season was contested as the second division of Speedway in the United Kingdom. The British League Divisions 2 and 3 were disbanded after this season and did not return until 1997. An Academy League was introduced. Summary Rye House Rockets did not start the season because the promoters Roger Shute and Peter Redfern left the club leaving Ronnie Russell in sole charge. Russell failed to secure the necessary funding to continue and the Rockets were disbanded. The league title and knockout Cup was won by the Glasgow Tigers, who achieved the feat of recording the 'double double' (the league and cup double for two consecutive seasons). Tony Langdon
Anthony Michael Langdon (born 20 June 1969) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career Langdon started his British leagues career during the 1988 National League season, where he rode for Poole Pirates. He stayed at Poole for five years, recording an average of 8.23 during the 1990 National League season. In 1991, Poole competed in the British League division 1 (the highest league) and Langdon remained with them. In 1992, after a failed bid by Edinburgh Monarchs to sign him, he doubled up for Poole and for the Sheffield Tigers, where he averaged an impressive 9.21 for the latter. He joined the Oxford Cheetahs for the 1993 season and topped the team averages. History The British Library's Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. Dennis Fritz Löfqvist (born 1 January 1967) is a former speedway rider from Sweden. He earned 7 caps for the Sweden national speedway team. Speedway career Löfqvist rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1989 until 1992, riding for King's Lynn Stars. He stood as reserve for the final of the Speedway World Championship in the 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship following a successful qualification through the Nordic final and his high placing in the Intercontinental Final.
