1992 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1992 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 60th Grand Prix of Endurance, taking place at the Circuit de la Sarthe, France, on the 20 and 21 June 1992. It was also the third round of the 1992 World Sportscar Championship season, 1992 FIA Sportscar World Championship season. The FIA was struggling to assemble sufficient cars for the race, and so the entry-list was extended to include the older Group C cars and national trophy cars. The 28 starters was the lowest since the 1932 race. With the withdrawal of the Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz teams, it looked to be a Peugeot vs Toyota contest, each with very strong driver combinations, with the new Mazdas there waiting for any slip-ups. The 1993 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 61st Grand Prix of Endurance, taking place at the Circuit de la Sarthe on the 19 and 20 June 1993. The race was won by Peugeot Sport, Peugeot Talbot Sport, with drivers Geoff Brabham, and Le Mans rookies Éric Hélary and Christophe Bouchut completing 375 laps in their Peugeot 905 Evo 1B. At the end of 1992, Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile, FISA had cancelled the Sportscar World Championship. This allowed the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, ACO to create their own regulations. As well as continuing the Group C classes, they opened the race to Grand Touring (GT) style cars for the first time since the 1986 race. 1994 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 62nd Grand Prix of Endurance, taking place at the Circuit de la Sarthe, and took place on 18 and 19 June 1994. The race was won by a car that had its roots in a 10-year-old design. Porsche exploited a loophole in the new GT regulations that allowed a single new car to represent a promised production run. Thus, in conjunction with customer team-owner Jochen Dauer, they created a road-legal version of the Porsche 962 Group C car. In the equivalency formula, GT cars were allowed more engine horsepower and a 50% bigger fuel tank than prototypes which, in turn, had better aerodynamics. The Dauer 962 Le Mans had both. 1995 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 63rd Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 17 and 18 June 1995 in one of the wettest races in the event's history with about 17 hours of steady rain. The race was won by the #59 McLaren F1 GTR driven by JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya entered in the GT1 category. This was the first Le Mans win for a driver from Finland and for a driver from Japan. The 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 65th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 14 and 15 June 1997. It was won by teammates Michele Alboreto, Stefan Johansson, and Tom Kristensen, driving a Porsche WSC-95. The race was the first of a record 9 wins (as of 2024) at Le Mans for Kristensen, on what was his La Sarthe debut. The 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 67th 24 Hours of Le Mans, and took place on 12 and 13 June 1999. The race had a large number of entries in the fastest Le Mans Prototype classes, with Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lola Cars, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Panoz, Riley & Scott, and Toyota all represented. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures.
