Tomcats (1977 Film)
''Tomcats'' is a 1977 American film directed by Harry E. Kerwin and starring Chris Mulkey, Polly King, Wayne Crawford, and William Kerwin. It was also known as ''Deadbeat'', ''Getting Even'' and ''Avenged''. at Temple of Schlock Filmed and set in Miami, Florida, the film details the actions of four amoral and degenerate thugs, named M.J., Johnny, Billy, and Curly, who travel around robbing, gang-raping and murdering young women. When they are arrested but get away with their crimes on a legal technicality, the older brother of one of their victims, a law student named Cullen Garrett, decides to take the law into his own hands by stalking and killing the four thugs one by one. Wayne Crawford
Wayne David Crawford (February 11, 1947 – April 30, 2016) was an American film and television actor, and film producer, director and screenwriter. Crawford appeared in nearly thirty films, produced fifteen, wrote nine, and directed seven. Crawford received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University and served at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts teaching directing for their School of Filmmaking. He portrayed the title character in the film ''Jake Speed'', which he also co-wrote and co-produced. ''Variety Movie Guide'' said his portrayal was "well played," and that he delivered his lines "as an old-fashioned paperback hero would – in clichés." Dimension Pictures Incorporated (DPI) was an American film studio founded in 1971, which primarily released exploitation and horror films. The studio underwent liquidation in 1981, after which many of its films were acquired by 21st Century Film Corporation. History Dimension was founded by Lawrence Woolner, an exhibitor who had made a number of films, including several with Roger Corman. He hired the husband and wife team of Stephanie Rothman and Charles S. Swartz to run the filmmaking division. Funds came from Sam Pulitzer, head of the Wembley Neckware Company who wanted to invest in movies. Rothman and Swartz left in 1975. William Kerwin
William Kerwin (April 17, 1927 – October 27, 1989) was an American actor and filmmaker. He was most well known for his character roles in the films of Herschell Gordon Lewis. Career Kerwin enjoyed some success on the stage and screen before being discovered by Herschell Gordon Lewis through the promotional short ''Carving Magic''. His first feature film with Lewis was '' Living Venus'', and he went on to star in some of the director’s best known works such as '' Blood Feast''. In addition to playing principal roles, Kerwin served variously as the assistant director, makeup technician, gaffer, key grip and prop man for Lewis’ films. Kerwin was thus often involved in creating the gory practical effects that would become Lewis’ trademark.
