Tobias Böckers
Tobias M. Böckers is the head of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (German: Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen, (DZNE)) Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Ulm. The focus of his work is translational protein biochemistry as it applies to neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS. He was born in Rheda-Wiedenbrück on 2 August 1964. In 1991, he was awarded an M.D. by the University of Münster, where he also completed postdoctoral work in anatomy and molecular neurobiology in 1998. He was President of the Anatomische Gesellschaft from 2010 to 2014. German Center For Neurodegenerative Diseases
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (German: Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen, (DZNE)) is an interdisciplinary research institution that investigates neurodegenerative disease in all its facets. It is one of six "centers for health research" founded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to combat the most important and widespread diseases. The DZNE is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. Organisation and History The center's declared aim is to develop new preventive and therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases. To accomplish this the DZNE follows a translational approach. This means that fundamental research is closely related to clinical research, population studies, and health care research. Rheda-Wiedenbrück (; Westphalian language, Westphalian: ''Raie-Wienbrügge'') is a city in the Gütersloh (district), district of Gütersloh, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography The twin community lies within the valley of the river Ems in the Westphalian Lowland south of the Teutoburg Forest, which is about 30 km away.
