Timrå () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Timrå Municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden with 10,443 inhabitants in 2010. It is located about 13 km north of Sundsvall (a town with a metropolitan area of some 100,000 inhabitants), and could arguably be considered a satellite to that town. The two closest cities (Sundsvall and Härnösand) share one airport, Midlanda, that is geographically located in Timrå. Indalsälven, one of Sweden's largest rivers with a length of 430 km, meets the Gulf of Botnia in Timrå. In Sweden, Timrå is mainly known for its ice hockey club Timrå IK, which, as of season 2023/24 plays in the Swedish top division Swedish Hockey League, SHL. In 1995, Swedish artist Bengt Lindström constructed the Y, a 30 meter high sculpture located in Timrå. Timrå IK
Timrå IK is a professional Swedish ice hockey team based in Timrå, north of Sundsvall. It competes in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), which is the top-tier league in Sweden, since being promoted by winning 2021 SHL qualifiers. Previous seasons in the top Swedish division include 1956–57 to 1975–76, 1977–78, 1981–82, 2000–01 to 2012–13 and 2018–19. The team's home venue is Timrå Isstadion with a capacity of 6,000 spectators. The club was founded on 11 Maj 1928 as a boxing club and started the ice hockey section in 1937. Timrå Municipality
Timrå Municipality () is a municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden. The town of Timrå is the municipal seat. The rural municipality ''Timrå'' was made a market town (''köping'') in 1947. The present municipality was created in 1971 when Timrå was amalgamated with ''Hässjö''. Geography Timrå is located in a terrain of forest and hills. Traditionally the industry has been dominated by forestry. The timber was transported through the rivers and streams to their destination, most often to sawmills. In tribute to this, the city arms depicts trees and water. Anton Lander
Sven Anton Lander (born April 24, 1991) is a Swedish professional ice hockey centre for Timrå IK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Lander was drafted in the second round, 40th overall, at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Playing career Lander broke into the Swedish Elitserien during the 2007–08 season as a centre for Timrå IK. He had also represented Timrå in the junior league between the 2006–07 and 2008–09 seasons. Lander was named one of the alternate captains for the team on September 22, 2009. Before leaving Sweden, Lander played for Timrå IK in the Elitserien, where his father, Anders "Ante" Karlsson was the head coach. On April 28, 2011, Lander signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers, and committed to play in North America from the 2011–12 season. Mats Näslund
Mats Torsten Näslund (born 31 October 1959), nicknamed "Le Petit Viking", is a Swedish former ice hockey player. He played as a left winger. Despite his small size at only five feet and seven inches, Näslund is best known for being one of the top forwards with the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens from 1982 to 1990. In addition to the Canadiens, Näslund played for Timrå IK, Brynäs IF, and Malmö IF of the Swedish Elite League, and HC Lugano of the National League A between 1975 and 1994. He made a short NHL comeback attempt in 1995 with the Boston Bruins following the 1994–95 NHL lockout, and retired after the season's conclusion. Jan Lennart "Lill-Strimma" Svedberg (29 February 1944 – 29 July 1972) was a Swedish ice hockey defenceman. He played for Timrå IK and Brynäs IF. He also played on the Swedish national team during six IIHF World Championships and the 1968 Winter Olympics. Svedberg was named best defenceman at the 1970 World Championships. Medelpad ( or ) is a historical province or ''landskap'' in the north of Sweden. It borders Hälsingland, Härjedalen, Jämtland, Ångermanland and the Gulf of Bothnia. The province is a part of Norrland and as such considered to be Northern Sweden, although the province geographically is located in the middle of Sweden. Anna Olsson (born 14 March 1964 in Timrå) is a Swedish sprint canoeist who competed from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s (decade). Competing in five Summer Olympics, she won four medals with one gold (1984: K-2 500 m), one silver (1984: K-4 500 m), and two bronzes (1992 and 1996: both K-4 500 m). Bengt Lindström
Bengt Karl Erik Lindström (September 3, 1925, Berg Municipality — January 29, 2008, Sundsvall) was a Sweden, Swedish artist. Lindström was one of Sweden's best known contemporary artists with a characteristic style of distinct colors, often including contorted faces. He had two children, Mariana and Alexandre. In 2003, Lindström became disabled due to a stroke and he became unable to paint. The year 2004 saw the release of a film about Bengt's life: "Lindström - Le Diable de la Couleur et de la Forme" (Lindström – A Hell of a Feeling for Colour and Form). On 29 January 2008, Lindström died at his home in Sundsvall, Sweden. Education Lindström was born in 1925 at Berg Municipality, Storsjö kapell, Härjedalen, Sweden.
