Timo Torikka
Timo Torikka (born 1 February 1958, in Kerava) is a Finnish actor. He graduated from the Theatre Academy of Finland in 1982, after which he has worked both on the stage and onscreen. One of his most well known parts is the role of Pentti Saari in Pekka Parikka's film '' Talvisota'' (''The Winter War'', 1989). He also acted in two episodes of French television series ''Maigret'' with Bruno Cremer. Torikka was the writer and director of the 1993 television series '' Hobitit'', an adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's ''The Hobbit'' and ''The Lord of the Rings'' for the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. In 1997 he worked in the Theatre of Cologne, Germany in Karin Beier's ''Sturm'' (Tempest by Shakespeare) and between 2005 and 2007 he played Bill's role in '' Plus loin que loin'' ("Further than the furthest thing" by Zinnie Harris) in France. Mika Juhani Kaurismäki (; born 21 September 1955) is a Finnish film director. Early life and education Mika Kaurismäki was born in Orimattila. He is the elder brother of Aki Kaurismäki. After high school, Kaurismäki worked as a painter of houses and apartments in the small town of Kuusankoski in the southeastern part of Finland. In the autumn of 1976, when the winter was coming and the annual high season for painting houses was over, he thought of doing something else in life. Still wearing his painter overalls, he walked into a bookstore and bought the newly published ''History of Cinema'' by Peter von Bagh. ''Tali-Ihantala 1944'' (English title ''1944: The Final Defence'') is a 2007 Finnish war film directed by Åke Lindman and Sakari Kirjavainen, based on the Battle of Tali–Ihantala during the Continuation War. Filming began during the summer of 2006 and was screened in autumn 2007. Lindman wanted the film to be as real as possible, and only include facts. He also wanted Finns to remember the sacrifices the soldiers made in those battles. The film received 350,000 euros in production support from the Finnish Film Foundation. The organization created to raise money for the movie was led by Admiral Jan Klenberg and was protected by former Finnish President Mauno Koivisto.
