Timișoara Horse-drawn Railway
The Timișoara horse-drawn railway, opened in 1869, formed the foundation of the Timișoara tramway, which was electrified in 1899. This Standard-gauge railway, standard-gauge Wagonway, horse tramway in Timișoara, then known as Temesvár in the Kingdom of Hungary and now part of Romania, was operated by the joint-stock company Temesvári Közúti Vaspálya Társaság (TKVT), or Temesvar Street Railway Company in German. From 1897, the company was renamed Temesvári Villamos Városi Vasút Részvénytársaság (TVVV). Today, it operates as a public limited company under the name STPT (transport operator), Societatea de Transport Public Timișoara (S.T.P.T.). Austro-Hungarian Compromise Of 1867
The Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 (, ) established the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary, which was a military and diplomatic alliance of two sovereign states. The Compromise only partially re-established the former pre-1848 sovereignty and status of the Kingdom of Hungary, being separate from, and no longer subject to, the Austrian Empire. The compromise put an end to the 18-year-long military dictatorship and absolutist rule over Hungary which Emperor Franz Joseph had instituted after the Hungarian Revolution of 1848.
